About The Position

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented, resourceful, and intellectually curious individual to serve as an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summer Intern supporting our Chief Transformation Officer (CTO) and the CTO Shop’s various innovation initiatives. This role provides hands-on exposure to artificial intelligence applications in federal cybersecurity, operational consulting, and business development within the government contracting space. The intern will assist in researching, prototyping, and analyzing AI-driven use cases relevant to federal missions, including cybersecurity threat analysis, business intelligence, automation, and emerging AI capabilities. This position offers practical experience working at the intersection of AI, cybersecurity, and federal contracting. In addition to AI-focused work, interns will participate in a structured corporate baseline experience alongside other cohort members. This shared foundation provides exposure to Edgewater’s business model, federal contracting fundamentals, operations, executive leadership, and cross-functional collaboration, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of how AI integrates into broader corporate strategy. This is a 10-week summer internship, requiring a full-time commitment of 6 hours a day, 30 hours per week, Monday-Friday. The internship will be held on a hybrid model, with a preference for attending in-person working sessions in the Reston, VA office. The schedule for this internship will be 9am-3:30pm EST. Requirements

  • Demonstrated curiosity and strong willingness to learn
  • Must be at least a rising Junior year of study enrolled in a College/University or a recent college graduate.
  • Enrolled in a field of study or career track related to the internship experience ( i.e. in machine learning, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, or relevant field)
  • Student must be in good academic and personal standing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Motivated individual demonstrating engagement in extracurricular or professional activities
  • Strong interpersonal, training, and organizational skills
  • United States citizenship as required by contract
  • Must be able to attend in person

Nice To Haves

  • Basic proficiency in Python
  • Foundational understanding of AI concepts ( e.g. model API calls, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG))
  • Basic familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure
  • Exposure to data analysis or scripting
  • Interest in federal contracting or mission-driven technology environments

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment with regular team meetings and status updates
  • Support development and experimentation with AI use cases (e.g., automation, analysis, data enrichment, retrieval-augmented generation concepts)
  • Analyze emerging AI tools, model capabilities, and federal adoption trends
  • Research business development with consideration for AI-enabled solutions
  • Support consulting efforts related to operational processes for federal contractors
  • Learn about various platforms to include Microsoft Azure and the use the AI tools within
  • Create a prototype of an AI tool s and supporting documentation
  • The practicum will culminate in a presentation of findings to a panel of executives
