About The Position

We are currently seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical Asset Recovery Specialist to join our team in Poughkeepsie. This role is responsible for preserving the credit union’s assets by managing delinquent loan accounts, recovering collateral, and working directly with members to resolve delinquencies while adhering to all regulatory, investor, and credit union guidelines. What You’ll Do Asset Recovery & Collections Manage higher‑level delinquency queues for credit cards and unsecured loans, including outbound calls to members to discuss delinquent accounts Work in‑house charge‑off queues to recover payments or establish repayment arrangements for small‑balance loans not assigned to attorneys or third‑party agencies Review member hardship assistance requests by gathering required documentation and financial information Analyze credit reports, budgets, and financial ratios to recommend appropriate workout options Perform skip tracing to locate members and obtain alternate contact methods Mortgage, Home Equity & Investor Loans Manage FICS and Home Equity delinquency queues and communicate with borrowers regarding delinquent accounts Serve as the primary point of contact for mortgage hardship assistance requests Conduct financial analysis and credit reviews to recommend workout solutions Assign loans for monthly inspections and send all required notices in accordance with servicing guidelines File foreclosures with the New York State Department of Financial Services, as required Compliance & Risk Management Maintain compliance with all state and federal collection and lending regulations Stay current with Secondary Market guidelines, including FHLB and Freddie Mac Participate in ongoing training and regularly review servicing guidelines Make recommendations to management regarding regulatory or investor‑driven program updates Operational Support Handle returned REPAY ACH notifications in coordination with Accounting, contacting members as needed and determining appropriate payment restrictions Provide coverage for other collector roles during absences as required Perform additional duties as assigned What We’re Looking For 1–3 years of similar or related experience in collections, asset recovery, or loan servicing Bachelor’s degree or industry‑recognized certifications equivalent to a degree Strong analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high level of professionalism Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with diplomacy and discretion Strong attention to detail, follow‑up, and independent problem‑solving ability Working knowledge of loan collection regulations and legal collection processes Knowledge of FHLB and Freddie Mac guidelines preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) Pay & Benefits Hourly Rate : $25-$28 per hour (based on experience) + Eligible for annual bonus Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer match Defined Benefit Pension Plan Generous Paid Time Off Supportive, team‑oriented culture with growth opportunities Apply today for immediate consideration! Requirements

  • 1–3 years of similar or related experience in collections, asset recovery, or loan servicing
  • Bachelor’s degree or industry‑recognized certifications equivalent to a degree
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with diplomacy and discretion
  • Strong attention to detail, follow‑up, and independent problem‑solving ability
  • Working knowledge of loan collection regulations and legal collection processes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
