About The Position

The School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) at the University of Wisconsin is seeking excellent candidates for a tenure track position through the Wisconsin Research, Innovation and Scholarly Excellence (RISE)- AI initiative. RISE-AI addresses significant, complex challenges of importance to Wisconsin and the world. Through this initiative, SMPH aims to accelerate medial research using artificial intelligence (AI) and develop innovative AI training for practitioners. This initiative focuses on advancing the technical dimensions and human-centered implications of AI as they impact medicine and health. RISE AI is a major opportunity to accelerate basic and translational research across domains and to create innovative integrated AI-medical and health research training programs to develop the next generation of scientists and practitioners of AI in medical research and clinical care. The School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) seeks to recruit outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position who demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly research, excellence in teaching, and professional service. The successful candidate will possess the ability to translate basic science discoveries into clinical practice. This individual will be expected to actively engage in interdisciplinary and collaborative initiatives across departments, schools, and colleges. Opportunities for joint appointments within other departments and schools at the University of Wisconsin may be available, depending on the candidate’s expertise and interests. The research focus of the faculty member should fall within focus areas: Precision Population Health: Improving health through precision prevention and intervention Molecular Discovery: Identification of novel target and drugs; analysis of large data sets to uncover new biological discoveries Integrated Diagnostics: AI-enabled screening, diagnostics, therapeutics, treatment monitoring, and decision making Advanced AI & Foundational Data Science: Advanced methodological approaches in AI relevant to health care As the nation’s first combined school of medicine and public health, we invest in faculty who share our passion for working together to advance health and health equity through education, service and research. Through accelerated and strategic faculty hiring, research infrastructure enhancement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and increased student and educational opportunities, RISE addresses complex societal challenges of importance to the state, nation and world. Building on UW-Madison's strengths, RISE expands the University's successful track record of connecting with communities and industry on collaborative solutions. Over the next three academic years, UW-Madison will substantially increase current hiring levels, bringing 150 new RISE faculty to campus. Candidates hired through RISE will join a community of scholars working across disciplines, schools and colleges on research, teaching and outreach endeavors. The community will engage regularly in venues such as seminar series and colloquia to share ongoing projects and identify opportunities to work together. Requirements

  • Researcher in one of the following areas: Precision Population Health Molecular Discovery Integrated Diagnostics Advanced AI & Foundational Data Science
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national/international meetings
  • Experience with teaching learners.
  • WI medical license is required by start date of position, if a physician performing clinical work
  • The successful candidate will have academic credentials sufficient for appointment on the Tenure Track
  • Required MD, MD and PhD, or PhD or equivalent by start date of appointment in computer science, oncology, neurosciences, biomedical imaging, drug development, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • If a physician-scientist, provide patient clinical care, which might include direct patient care at UW Health locations.
  • As part of the University of Wisconsin RISE-AI initiative, the successful candidate will commit to scholarly research, teaching, and professional service at the tenure-track level.
  • The successful candidate will advance the mission of SMPH.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative research and education efforts with other departments, schools, and colleges.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students, fostering a collaborative and learning oriented environment.
  • Serve on research mentor committees as needed.
  • Conduct innovative research.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, and researchers from multiple schools and colleges on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus to integrate knowledge into clinical practice to improve the quality and quantity of life for patients.
  • Apply for research grants and funding opportunities to support ongoing projects and innovative research initiatives.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts with other departments, schools, and colleges.
  • Disseminate research findings through scientific publications, presentations at scientific conferences and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and regulations while conducting research involving human subjects and animal models.
  • Participate in the teaching efforts of a SMPH Department. Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, conferences, and daily training of residents, fellows, and medical students (if on clinical service).
