The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes by providing athletic training services related to the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Working under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, this position assists in delivering comprehensive medical care to varsity athletic programs, coordinating care with team physicians and healthcare providers, and maintaining accurate medical documentation. The Assistant Athletic Trainer also supports the academic and athletic success of student-athletes while promoting and upholding the mission and values of the University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant athletic training or sports medicine experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, and medical documentation standards related to athletic training and student-athlete care.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, physicians, and university personnel.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required by athletic schedules.
  • Ability to travel with teams and remain out of town for extended periods as necessary.
  • Must be able to walk, remain in a stationary position for extended periods, move about the office or athletic field/area, and lift/carry up to 100 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by varsity student-athletes.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in administering comprehensive health care services for student-athletes, including injury prevention programs, treatment protocols, and rehabilitation plans.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for assigned practices, competitions, and team activities, including injury evaluation, immediate care, and determining participation status in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Develop and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes to support safe return to participation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical documentation and records related to athletic injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up care with team physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers.
  • Monitor and assist with insurance claims related to student-athlete injuries as needed.
  • Assist with the operation of the Athletic Training Room, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and supporting the athletic training budget process.
  • Support and promote the University’s mission while contributing to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes.
