Assistant Athletic Trainer
About The Position
The Assistant Athletic Trainer works in close partnership with the other athletic trainers, the team physician, athletic department, parents, and other essential healthcare providers to provide evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Reporting directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is present during practice sessions and contests to act as a first responder supporting student athletes. The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school enrolling over 1,500 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The student body is divided into the Lower School (PreK - 4th Grade), the Middle School (5th grade - 8 th grade) and the Upper School (9th grade - 12th grade). Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the Kinkaid offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, and diverse culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university
- Licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the Texas Department of Health
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work a variable schedule that includes occasional travel
Nice To Haves
- National Athletic Trainers’ Association certification preferred
Responsibilities
- management of acute injury or illness to athlete
- rehabilitation procedures
- operation of therapeutic devices and equipment
- application of braces, guards, tape and other devices
- referrals to the physician, health services, or hospital
- maintain medical records on athletes
- Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
- Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical and paramedical personnel, coaches, and other staff
- Detect and resolve environmental risks to athletes
- Assist in overseeing athletic training room operations including maintaining inventory of training supplies and equipment
- Provide athletic training services to both middle and high school age student athletes
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function
