The Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General is looking for an experienced and highly motivated attorney to serve as an Assistant Attorney General in the Gun Violence Prevention Unit (GVPU) within the Consumer Protection Division (CPD). This innovative Unit works to reduce gun violence in Massachusetts by enforcing the Commonwealth’s gun safety laws and supporting compliance efforts in partnership with law enforcement, other government agencies, and community stakeholders. The Assistant Attorney General will work closely with the GVPU Director to advance the Unit’s mission, with a primary focus on enforcement-related investigations and litigation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Screening and developing new matters aligned with GVPU enforcement priorities. Investigating potential violations of Massachusetts gun laws and related consumer protection or regulatory provisions. Building litigation-ready factual records and coordinating evidence-gathering with law enforcement and agency partners. Drafting and litigating enforcement matters in state and federal court, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and hearings/trial preparation. Negotiating and enforcing settlements and other compliance resolutions, as appropriate. Coordinating with internal AGO teams and external partners (including law enforcement agencies, District Attorneys, and relevant state agencies) to advance GVPU enforcement efforts. Supporting cross-state and multi-party matters, including multi-state investigations or coordinated actions with other Attorneys General, as appropriate. Supporting legislative and policy initiatives, including legal research, analysis, and drafting. Engaging with community stakeholders as needed, including through developing and implementing communications strategies.
