About The Position

Compana Pet Brands is a global leader in pet care and nutrition dedicated to enriching the lives of pets and their families today and for generations to come. We are actively seeking an Assistant Controller to join our growing organization and help us Nurture What You Love! This role’s primary responsibility will be to oversee day‑to-day accounting operations—including general ledger management, revenue recognition, and the month-end close process while ensuring compliance with GAAP and corporate policies. This role also drives continuous improvement across systems, processes, and controls to support scalability, operational efficiency, and data accuracy. The Assistant Controller plays a key leadership role within the Finance/Controllership organization, supporting the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the financial reporting for the Company. This position partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Commercial, and FP&A teams to ensure robust accounting processes, strong internal controls, and clear financial visibility across a fast‑paced, dynamic CPG environment.

Requirements

  • Effectively communicate in English, in both verbal and written forms
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, plus 5-7 years accounting experience.
  • Manager or supervisor experience leading all aspects for a team.
  • High proficiency in SAP and Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and impacts of transactions executed in foreign currencies.
  • Solid management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA with public accounting & private experience (manufacturing/CPG) preferred
  • Experience with Concur and Blackline preferred

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and reviewing monthly journal entries.
  • Preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations leveraging Blackline.
  • Preparing monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP aligning to Company policy and timelines.
  • Taking a lead role in the Company’s annual external audit.
  • Coordinating tasks related to M&A activity prior to and after the transaction date.
  • Maintaining chart of accounts and ensuring accounts/cost centers are used appropriately including intercompany accounts.
  • Producing, analyzing, and distributing financial reports for management as needed.
  • Leading and driving continuous improvements across the accounting and financial processes across all ERPs.
  • Organizing, delegating and managing workflow, ensuring tasks and projects are correctly prioritized and completed timely and accurately.
