About The Position

Plan and prepare meals with help of Senior Meals Cook for SVT Elder Meals Program, Seldovia Conference Center and catering. Work schedule at this time it would be 1pm-6pm Tuesday – Fridays with an expected increase in hours in the summer months for camps, picnics, catering and other events.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years experience as a cook preferred
  • Knowledge of various cooking methods such as grilling, baking, boiling, etc. required
  • Ability to follow sanitation procedures required
  • Ability to work as a member of a team required
  • Organizational skills required
  • Verbal and written communication skills including proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred but not required.
  • Current Food Handler Certificate, CPR/First Aid. Both provided by SVT
  • Basic Computer keyboard knowledge.
  • Annual TB testing; must be able to pass background check and drug screen.
  • Must be cheerful and have an ability and desire to work with senior citizens in a team environment.
  • This job requires the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Protective rubber or latex work gloves.
  • This job requires the sense of smell and the sense of taste.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel items. They are required to stand almost constantly, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position regularly requires the individual to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs without assistance.
  • Employee will be required to kneel or squat to reach areas of storage in the Kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan and prepare menus and meals
  • Research and devise food recipes
  • Estimate expected food consumption and order/prepare accordingly
  • Maintain inventory of supplies
  • Cleans and maintains food preparation areas as determined by law and SVT Policy
  • Support SVT Elder Meal, Conference Center Programs, and catering
  • Set up tables and dinner settings
  • Set up beverage table and make coffee
  • Launder tablecloths and soiled linens after each meal.
  • Maintain professional atmosphere for Elders and guests
  • Other duties as assigned
