About the position

The Assistant Director for Alumni Communications and Marketing at the Yale School of Management (SOM) engages alumni audiences through written and digital communications, manages print production, supports marketing efforts, maintains the website, leads special projects, and analyzes alumni communications data. Reports to the Director of Alumni Communications and Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Create written content for Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) team, including writing copy for the alumni website, alumni event pages, alumni marketing campaigns, social media, and print pieces.
  • Proofread and draft written copy for digital assets and print materials.
  • Draft stories, features, profiles, and blurbs that capture and communicate the contributions of Yale SOM alumni.
  • Ensure branding and messaging across communication channels is clear, concise, consistent, and reflects the school's messaging.
  • Support the DAR team in building a cohesive marketing strategy for promotion of alumni events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Serve as co-editor of the alumni website and assist in designing, editing, and developing content.
  • Manage SOM Connect/Hivebrite platform, including reporting on bugs/issues and liaising with IT for maintenance.
  • Provide input and design insights on DAR design projects and manage production of all print/graphic design projects.
  • Interpret data from alumni demographic information and behavioral trends to inform communications strategy.
  • Track metrics for alumni emails and analyze data to improve communications effectiveness.
  • Participate in and staff SOM AR activities such as alumni events, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Support the Director of Alumni Communications and Marketing with talking points and briefing materials.
  • Assist with running queries and exporting reports on HOPPER related to alumni activity.

Requirements

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly for various audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong creative skills and ability to market programs to alumni.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills, including advanced MS Office and complex databases.
  • Customer service excellence and skills in working with alumni groups and volunteers.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Proven experience with graphic editing software, e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Related work experience in communications, marketing, social media, and/or content creation.
  • Experience with Drupal, HTML, Canva, and other similar communications, design, web, and marketing tools.
