About The Position

Dell Medical School is seeking an Assistant Director for Development, Donor and Alumni Relations Purpose The Assistant Director for Development, Donor and Alumni Relations supports strategic fundraising and engagement efforts by leading donor stewardship, alumni relations, volunteer engagement, and impact reporting initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Development, External Relations, this role collaborates with gift officers, communications, events, and faculty partners to create meaningful donor experiences and alumni engagement strategies. The position plays a key role in sustaining philanthropic support and advancing institutional priorities through donor-centric programming and stewardship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, Business, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years in donor relations, alumni engagement, volunteer coordination, or fundraising
  • Relevant education or experience may be substituted as appropriate

  • Minimum of 5 years in donor relations, alumni engagement, annual giving, fundraising, project management and/or data analytics
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)

Responsibilities

  • Donor Stewardship & Engagement Strategy Design and implement personalized, high-impact stewardship experiences for current and prospective donors in collaboration with gift officers, events staff, and senior leadership.
  • Develop and manage individualized stewardship and engagement plans for major and principal gift donors in partnership with the Director of Development, External Relations and senior leaders.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of impact reports, annual endowment letters, and other donor communications that demonstrate philanthropic impact.
  • Lead the gift acknowledgment process, including drafting customized thank-you letters, managing video acknowledgments, and coordinating milestone-based donor touchpoints such as holidays and birthdays.
  • Support the development of donor-facing materials for UT Medical Center campaign and cultivation initiatives.
  • Data & Financial Stewardship Operations Manage and maintain accurate donor data in collaboration with advancement services and prospect management teams to ensure integrity across stewardship and reporting functions.
  • Ensure compliance with gift agreements and donor intent by coordinating with finance, endowment compliance and departmental stakeholders to monitor fund utilization, communicate gift criteria, and support timely and accurate reporting.
  • Track and analyze stewardship activities and donor engagement metrics to inform strategy and improve outcomes.
  • Oversee the inventory and tracking of nameable assets and donor recognition signage, ensuring accurate documentation and timely implementation.
  • Internal Collaboration & Project Management Serve as a liaison across development, finance, student affairs, and academic departments to ensure alignment and execution of stewardship and engagement strategies.
  • Partner with institutional stakeholders to support scholarship processes, including donor-student connections and impact reporting.
  • Assist in the production and distribution of stewardship gifts and branded materials.
  • Contribute to cross-functional planning and execution of donor recognition and engagement events.
  • Strategic Communications & List Management Develop and maintain donor communication lists, activity codes, and tracking systems in collaboration with research and communications teams.
  • Support the creation of donor-facing content, including impact stories, stewardship collateral, and campaign updates.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of communications through multiple channels, including print, digital, and in-person engagement.
  • Alumni Relations & Student Engagement Support the alumni relations program in collaboration with annual giving, events, and student affairs teams to foster lifelong engagement.
  • Partner with the Office of Student Affairs and Dell Med students to cultivate philanthropy, including the planning and execution of student giving campaigns.
  • Coordinate alumni and student engagement initiatives that strengthen institutional affinity and build the donor pipeline.
