About The Position

The Assistant Director of Horsemanship and Instructor organizes and manages all aspects of instruction and equestrian sports activities with Horsemanship students. Supervises and manages the Instructional Staff, the curriculum and its development, and documentation required by the Academic Affairs Department for student grades. Takes the lead on equine assignments, including approving new horses into the program. Assists the Director of Horsemanship to ensure the Culver equestrian program delivers in both training and maintenance areas to maintain a fit and healthy herd to deliver the required outputs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience in all phases of equine instruction, including an instructional qualification with a recognized national governing body.
  • Excellent computer skills to deliver organization outputs.
  • Must be a capable horse trainer with the ability to train unbroken horses and maintain trained horses as they develop within the English ridden discipline.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience coaching English seat, show Jumping, dressage, eventing, polo, western, or quad drill teams
  • Must be an effective communicator, able to interact in a professional manner.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Current valid driver's license (chauffeurs license preferred), clean driving record.
  • Available for travel on overnight trips.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and deliver safe Military Parade formations.
  • Prepare and assist with updating the curriculum.
  • Brief and ensure that the Horsemanship staff are following the curriculum.
  • Manage the daily use of all horses for activities and welfare outputs.
  • Monitor the herd and ride all the new horses to assess their suitability for the program.
  • Ensure that classes are being conducted in a safe environment and that all safety protocols are being followed.
  • Ensure that Students are following the stable rules.
  • Work with Instructional staff on class allocations.
  • Instruct either the Lancer Platoon or Equestriennes, understand parade formations, and teach classes.
  • Assist with coordinating Parents Weekends, Alumni Weekends, and Graduation Weekend.
  • Assist with coordinating any off-Campus participation of Students for special events.
  • Work in tandem with the Director of Horsemanship.
  • In addition to regular duties, is expected to participate in various clubs and activities, coach equine athletic teams, perform student supervisory and chaperone duties, and engage in other tasks assigned by the proper authorities.
