About The Position

Assistant Director of State Reporting Mission : The Assistant Director of State Reporting plays a pivotal role in owning and executing IDEA Public Schools’ Texas PEIMS and state reporting efforts with accuracy and consistency. Reporting to the Sr. Director of State Reporting and working in close strategic alignment, this role operates with high autonomy to lead end-to-end submission execution, ensure compliance with state and federal requirements, and serve as the primary escalation point for PowerSchool-related state reporting issues, including Ed-Fi integrations, TSDS submissions, and business rule validations. Beyond compliance, the Assistant Director drives a culture of accountability and data ownership across Schools Team leadership—including Principals, VP of Schools, Executive Directors, and Area Superintendents—as well as key HQ stakeholders, by strengthening verification practices, elevating understanding of accountability metrics, and reducing last-minute escalations through proactive data monitoring. This role also leads the development and institutionalization of PEIMS dashboards, the IDEA PEIMS Handbook, and other state reporting tools that increase data visibility, improve decision-making, and sustain strong data governance practices across the organization. Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities are expected during the first year. Supervisory duties may be assigned in subsequent years based on organizational needs and demonstrated performance. Location: This is a full-time position based in Texas with some travel within Texas to be expected. Preference given to candidates who live in Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin (Midland/Odessa), Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County (Fort Worth), or who are willing to relocate. Travel Expectations: 15% travel to team meetings, professional development, leadership gatherings, regional offices, and occasional vendor/partner locations during critical implementation phases.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business, or related field.
Minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in Texas PEIMS and state reporting within a public education environment.
Demonstrated expertise in PowerSchool state reporting functionality, including data validation, extract review, Ed-Fi integrations, and troubleshooting of TSDS submissions.
Strong understanding of TWEDS standards, state reporting business rules, and compliance requirements.
Proven experience leading high-stakes submission cycles with multiple stakeholders and strict regulatory deadlines.
Advanced knowledge of Texas PEIMS requirements, TWEDS standards, and TSDS submission processes, including experience interpreting business rules, resolving fatal errors and warnings, and managing submission cycles in complex K–12 environments.
Deep functional expertise in PowerSchool student information system configuration and state reporting functionality, including Ed-Fi data flows, extract validation, and cross-module data reconciliation.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to review large data sets, identify discrepancies, and translate findings into actionable correction plans for campuses and HQ stakeholders.
Experience developing or collaborating on reporting dashboards and data visibility tools (e.g., Power BI, OnDataSuite or similar platforms) to support verification cycles and improve decision-making.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-stakes deadlines simultaneously, maintain structured project timelines, and operate effectively in fast-paced submission environments.
High level of professional communication skills, including the ability to present to campus staff and senior leaders, facilitate cross-functional discussions, and provide clear written guidance during critical submission periods.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end execution of all Texas PEIMS and state reporting submissions by leading validation, TSDS submissions, reconciliation, and post-submission review cycles to ensure accurate, complete, and compliant reporting across all IDEA Texas campuses.
Serve as the primary state reporting systems lead for PowerSchool and TSDS integrations by overseeing troubleshooting of Ed-Fi data flows, fatal errors, special warnings/warnings, and business rule validations, partnering closely with Student Applications, Data Services, and vendors to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
Lead structured training and capacity building across campuses and HQ by designing and delivering training for SIS Coordinators, Registrars, Schools Team leadership, and key HQ stakeholders to ensure consistent understanding, execution, and ownership of PEIMS data requirements.
Drive a culture of accountability and data ownership across Schools Team and HQ stakeholders by partnering with Principals, VP of Schools, Executive Directors, Area Superintendents, and functional leaders to strengthen verification practices, deepen understanding of accountability metrics, and reduce last-minute escalations through proactive monitoring and structured correction cycles.
Lead the development, annual maintenance, and institutionalization of the IDEA PEIMS Handbook by ensuring centralized documentation of processes, business rules, submission timelines, and role clarity to support continuity, audit readiness, and scalable compliance year over year.
Lead the design and adoption of PEIMS dashboards and reporting visibility tools by collaborating with Data Services and business partners to build and institutionalize dashboards that increase transparency, improve decision-making, and embed structured data management practices across the organization.
Operate with high autonomy as a strategic partner to the Sr. Director of State Reporting by executing independently within clear strategic alignment, proactively identifying risks, driving process improvements, and contributing to the long-term transformation of state reporting operations at IDEA.
Represent IDEA Public Schools in external state reporting forums and vendor engagements by participating in TEA, Education Service Centers, PowerSchool, and TSDS-related meetings to stay ahead of regulatory changes, advocate for IDEA’s operational needs, and ensure timely internal communication of updates.
Lead cross-functional submission readiness reviews and risk assessments prior to major PEIMS collections to surface risks, align stakeholders, clarify trade-offs, and ensure organizational readiness.
Establish and enforce internal verification deadlines across campuses and HQ teams by creating structured review cycles with clear timelines, accountability checkpoints, and defined escalation pathways to ensure data accuracy before submission windows.
Drive structured issue escalation and vendor coordination by submitting and tracking high-volume technical cases with PowerSchool and TSDS (TIMS), ensuring timely resolution of system-level defects, data flow disruptions, and integration issues impacting state reporting.
Strengthen cross-functional alignment with Data Services, Student Applications, the Business Office, and ERP stakeholders to ensure state-reportable data elements are accurately configured, synced, and governed as new processes and integrations are introduced.
Support annual strategic planning and long-term state reporting roadmaps in partnership with the Sr. Director by identifying opportunities for automation, dashboard enhancement, process redesign, and operational efficiencies.
