About The Position

The Assistant Director, Safety and Compliance (Safety/Environmental Compliance Associate) is a member of an integrated team of safety professionals within Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). The overall responsibility of the team is to monitor and assess conditions on campus and provide necessary oversight to ensure that ISU provides a safe and healthy campus for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. EHS staff monitors regulatory compliance in environmental issues as well as occupational safety, health, and emergency management issues The Assistant Director, Safety and Compliance is directly responsible for designated subject areas within the EHS department such as fire and life safety, code compliance, occupational safety, and emergency medical services (EMS) including day-to-day operations within those subject areas. This position collaborates with all members of the EHS team in developing campus policies, procedures, and practices that serve to minimize injuries and illnesses to employees, students, and visitors and ensures compliance with applicable EHS regulations, codes, and requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, environmental health, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of full time (or part time equivalent) professional work experience in a safety or compliance related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • NOTE: Master's degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
  • Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation: -Ability to climb ladders, access multiple flights of stairs, and work at heights. -Ability to enter and work in confined areas such as sewers, tunnels, and crawl spaces. -Ability to work in personal protective clothing while working in a hazardous environment. -Ability to wear various respirators. -Ability to lift 30 pounds.

Responsibilities
