About The Position

KPF’s legal team is seeking a Senior Attorney with 10+ years of experience in design and construction law to support our international architecture firm. The applicant must be a motivated, collaborative, detailed, self-starter who would like to become an integral part of our legal team.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate degree with a license to practice law and in good standing
  • 10+ years experience in the design and construction industry either in-house or with a law firm
  • Broad experience drafting and negotiating sophisticated design and construction related agreements
  • Deep understanding of professional liability insurance
  • Ability to handle a high volume of projects with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional ability to build trusted relationships with both internal business teams and external partner counsel
  • Superior judgment in risk assessment and mitigation, with the confidence to say both "yes, here's how" and "no, here's why" when the situation demands
  • Strong analytic, communication and presentation skills
  • Concise writing skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

  • Background in international design and construction law preferred, but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Support the General Counsel in directing and managing the Company’s legal affairs
  • Safeguard the Company’s legal interests through analysis of legal issues and mitigation of risk
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide array of contracts for projects in the US and internationally, including architectural service agreements, consultancy and subconsultancy agreements, joint venture and teaming agreements, non-disclosure, indemnity and vendor agreements.
  • Work with external counsel when required.
  • Work closely with project managers on contracts and risk management issues
  • Supervise and train junior counsel and other legal team members
  • Manage and assist outside counsel with litigation and arbitration proceedings
  • Support leadership in strategic endeavors
  • Assist the Human Resources Department with employee complaints, employment agreements, immigration issues and independent contractor agreements.
  • Review of RFP’s and proposals associated with new business pursuits
  • Work with our CFO to manage insurance needs while maintaining compliance requirements and internal protocols
  • Provide training to the Company’s employees on relevant legal topics
  • Support IT and technology teams on Artificial Intelligence contracts
  • Stay current with legislative changes that affect the Company
