About The Position

The Assistant Golf Professional works in coordination with the Head Golf Professional and/or General Manager to support the overall management and execution of daily golf operations at Makefield Highlands Golf Club. This position provides direction and training to front-line supervisors and part-time team members and helps ensure an exceptional golfer and guest experience through world-class service, efficient operations, and consistent standards for presentation and professionalism. This role works closely with individual leaders of each program (leagues, outings, instruction, junior golf, and practice range) as well as other internal departments (Food & Beverage, Agronomy, Marketing, and Accounting) to support smooth operations, strong communication, and alignment with Company performance standards.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in golf operations, golf shop, or closely related golf facility roles (starter, ranger, outside services, tournament operations, or golf shop) preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership or coordinator role in operations or guest service required (may be concurrent with golf experience).
  • Experience with tee sheet management, golfer check-in, and/or tournament or league support strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the game of golf, including rules, etiquette, and typical daily-fee or club operations; PGA/LPGA Associate status or prior golf operations training a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, support, and positively influence front-line team members, with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests, staff, and leadership teams.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and the ability to learn golf-specific software (tee sheet, POS, and reporting tools).
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on golf demand, events, and seasonal requirements.
  • Well organized, efficient, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain current CPR/First Aid certifications within a specified period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Align with the venue and Company's Mission Statements and Core Values, modeling a culture of world-class service, accountability, excellence, and teamwork across all golf operations.
  • Provide visible, hands-on support on the golf course, in the golf shop, and around the practice facilities, reinforcing service standards and guest engagement expectations.
  • Assist in coordinating daily golf operations, including tee sheet execution, golfer check-in, starter and ranger/player assistant deployment, and closing procedures.
  • Support the training and day-to-day guidance of Starters, Rangers/Player Assistants, Outside Services, Golf Shop Attendants, and Practice Range staff to ensure a seamless arrival-to-departure experience.
  • Help monitor pace of play and on-course etiquette, communicating with Starters, Rangers, and golfers to maintain a positive and efficient experience.
  • Assist with cash handling procedures at the golf shop POS and ensure adherence to established financial controls and Company policies.
  • Coordinate setup and teardown for golf events, including leagues, tournaments, outings, and clinics (cart staging, signage, scoring materials, contest markers, cart assignments, registration areas).
  • Support pre- and post-event communications with event and group organizers, ensuring details are confirmed, expectations are clarified, and feedback is captured.
  • Assist with basic scoring, results distribution, and on-site event support as directed by the Golf Operations Manager or Golf Professionals.
  • Help ensure the practice range and practice facilities are properly stocked, clean, and guest-ready, including range balls, bags/baskets, alignment sticks, signage, and short-game areas.
  • Provide oversight and support to Outside Services and cart staff in staging, cleaning, and rotating golf carts according to venue and manufacturer standards.
  • Conduct regular visual inspections of golf operations areas (golf shop, cart barn, staging area, starter's station, on-course comfort stations, and practice facilities) to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with venue standards and applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and Agronomy Team Members to communicate and address any repairs or upgrades needed for golf operations equipment, signage, carts, and related infrastructure.
  • Support safety and risk management procedures related to golf carts, weather protocols, and incident reporting in alignment with Company policies.
  • Provide support to front-line managers/supervisors to promote compliance with SFM policies and applicable laws, including labor, safety, and guest service standards.
  • Support hiring, training, and ongoing education of Team Members on proper golf operations procedures, safety protocols, guest service expectations, and use of golf software systems.
  • Assist with monitoring team schedules, time-off requests, and shift coverage for golf operations areas, helping to balance labor efficiency with service standards.
  • Assist in maintaining budgets and exercising control in expense management related to golf operations supplies, tournament materials, and practice facility needs, as assigned.
  • Oversee accurate reporting of inventory for golf shop retail, tournament supplies, and range supplies, in coordination with the Golf Operations Manager.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed, including opening and/or closing of the facility, and support cross-departmental initiatives and special projects.
  • Participate in planning and strategic meetings related to golf operations programs, events, and service improvements.
  • Complete special projects, daily assignments, and other duties as assigned by the Golf Operations Manager and/or General Manager.
