About The Position

Provides strong customer service, ensures superior product quality, and maintains fresh and adequate inventory levels. Has full working knowledge of all grocery department functions. Assists the Grocery Manager with maintaining inventory, processing administrative paperwork, and keeping accurate department records.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; maintains professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to lift, reach, and maneuver items up to 50 lbs; frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion required.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand–eye coordination required; able to stand for long periods.
  • Must remain mentally alert; requires basic math skills and knowledge of weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, sanitation, handling, labeling, and department procedures.
  • Operates phones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines. Uses cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Uses computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays; schedule varies. Good attendance required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards exists due to equipment and work tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an enthusiastic atmosphere focused on fast and friendly customer service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions.
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques via phone, intercom announcements, and direct customer interaction.
  • Answers incoming calls, responds appropriately, and resolves customer complaints; escalates to Store Director when needed.
  • Acts as the person in charge of total store operations in the Store Director’s absence.
  • Assists with planning daily operations and monitoring production processes according to company procedures and profitability targets.
  • Builds grocery displays, rotates product, and removes outdated or spoiled items; maintains cleanliness in the department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays and assists in coordinating grocery sales promotions.
  • Ensures accurate pricing, proper merchandising, and clean, organized shelves.
  • Maintains and follows all department standards and requirements.
  • Monitors employee productivity.
  • May schedule employees to ensure proper coverage and service levels.
  • Has full knowledge of all department roles, including opening/closing duties, dairy, and frozen.
  • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to grocery employees.
  • Trains employees on store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Understands and follows company policies in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures all grocery products meet proper code‑date compliance.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports; physical inventory is taken every 6 months.
  • Controls inventory to ensure proper product quantity, quality, and freshness while maintaining levels according to division directives.
  • Stocks and rotates grocery product.
  • Assists with ordering grocery items and maintaining proper inventory levels; oversees reclamation and ensures orderly back‑room conditions.
  • Controls shrink and costs.
  • Ensures proper product preparation and handling.
  • Operates equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Performs receiving duties: breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Follows all temperature, storage, and packaging guidelines.
  • Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department documentation.
  • Completes and maintains daily logs, sales and labor reports, and other required documentation.
  • Ensures proper product temperature levels.
  • Ensures compliance with labeling laws, federal/state regulations, and company code‑dating policies.
  • Follows all workplace safety rules.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work areas, coolers, equipment, and displays.
  • Uses emergency procedures in the event of equipment or software failures.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices.
  • May attend sales meetings and communicate goals, performance, and sales opportunities to employees.
  • Ensures compliance with grooming standards and dress code.
  • Performs all duties safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
  • Performs other duties as required.
