The Assistant Kitchen Manager works alongside the Kitchen Manager to keep daily kitchen operations running smoothly - from production and food safety to quality control and team support. They help guide the team, hold standards, and make sure recipes are executed the right way, every time. This is a hands-on leadership role that keeps the kitchen steady, organized, and focused. When this position is strong, the entire operation runs with confidence - and that confidence shows up in the food we serve to Sunport travelers every day.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in kitchen, bakery, or food production
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Proven ability to lead, direct, or support a team
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and stay organized under pressure
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to obtain a New Mexico Alcohol Server Permit
  • Successful completion of: Pre-employment drug screening, Criminal background check, TSA-required background clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory or lead experience in a kitchen environment
  • Culinary or baking/pastry background
  • Experience in production kitchens or multi-unit operations

Responsibilities

  • Support the Kitchen Manager in daily kitchen operations and production
  • Lead and direct prep cooks, bakers, and kitchen team members
  • Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation standards are met
  • Execute baking and food production according to recipes and specifications
  • Monitor production schedules, prep levels, and workflow efficiency
  • Maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards
  • Train, coach, and support team members on best practices
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, and kitchen organization
  • Step into hands-on production as needed to support the team
  • Support other kitchen and restaurant functions as needed (prep, dish, cashiering, etc.)
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
  • Assist with special projects and operational needs
