About The Position

The Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting in the day to day operational management of the Sterile Processing Department Services across the Ambulatory Perioperative Sites. Working under the direction of the Manager of Sterile Processing Department and in collaboration with the Managers of the Operating Rooms, the assistant manager will support the manager in evaluating and executing the functions of Sterile Processing Services for the above mentioned entities. Support safe patient care and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • One year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of needs, goals, deliverables and interdependencies of other functional organizations.
  • Knowledge of new technologies (in specific field) and maintain and stay abreast of updates and changes.
  • Knowledge of Surgical Instrument Care, Cleaning, Handling, Wrapping and Sterilization.
  • Knowledge of Instrument Assembly /Case Cart and Supply Processing.
  • Knowledge of standard procedures and methods used to decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, store and distribute items and instrumentation within applicable Federal, State and other regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to support resources (people, costs, and time) across multiple departments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and in situations requiring instructing, persuading, negotiating, conflict resolution, consulting and advising as well as prepare clear, comprehensive written and oral reports and materials.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties as assigned, following the policy and procedures of Stanford Health Care and the Sterile Processing Department.
  • Must be familiar with operation of decontamination, cleaning and sterilization equipment, Departmental Standards of Operation, Policy and Procedures and Human Resources.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services, ensuring they are compatible with the function and goals of SHC.
  • Helps develop and oversee an effective system of information, records and reports for assigned department, utilizing appropriate manual or electronic system.
  • Assists in evaluating staffing requirements for the department, ensuring qualified, competent persons are available to provide services.
  • Supports the manager in hiring staff, merit pay increases, and promotions.
  • Mentors Supervisory personnel to effectively coach, orient, and provide feedback to departmental personnel.
  • Engages in lean learning and coaching of frontline staff with the support of the manager and director.
