Job Summary  Location: Detroit, MIThis position is responsible for assisting with overseeing, managing, and directing the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities for the Utility and Energy Assets located within the central utility complex and the manufacturing area at Stellantis’ Detroit Assembly Complex - Mack (DACM).Assets include (7) Centrifugal Chillers – (3) Carrier 2100-Ton; (2) York 2500-Ton; (1) York 2200-Ton; (1) York 1200-Ton (variable speed); Primary/Secondary Chilled Water Pumps; (5) Centrifugal Air Compressors – (3) IR Centac 1750-HP; (1) IR Centac 800-HP; (1) Elliott 800-HP; (2) Sahara Desiccant Dryers (10,000 CFM each); (54) direct fired Air Handling Units and (5) indirect fired Air Handling Units (all with chilled water cooling); High Bay Lighting and Electrical Distribution Systems (13800v, 4160v, 480v); Wastewater Treatment Plant; and 14-cell Cooling Tower with associated circulating pumps that support several of these systems.Utility systems and powerhouse infrastructure experience is required, particularly in the competitive, non-regulated energy market. Experience supervising unionized labor is important. Work involves performing difficult and complex tasks requiring a high level of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • At least 8 years of supervisory or managerial experience in a Cogeneration power plant with a represented (Union) workforce
  • Thorough, demonstrated understanding of plant operations and maintenance, with strong knowledge of generating equipment, boilers, and water treatment processes
  • Ability to analyze and improve operations business processes
  • Proven planning and scheduling experience working with O&M, and other technical personnel involved with preventative/predictive maintenance and corrective maintenance
  • Solid knowledge of plant engineering and plant maintenance functions and how they relate to operations
  • Experience with accounting practices as it relates to analyzing cost impacts to budget
  • Demonstrated skill in planning, coordinating, and directing varied programs and tasks directly affecting the overall plant operation
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work shifts and extra/irregular hours and to work under unusual and special conditions that can arise in a generation station
  • Ability to pass respirator fit tests to use respiratory protective equipment or self-contained breathing apparatus at all times

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the utility assets are operated in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner while satisfying the utility and energy requirements of the Customer (Stellantis)
  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of all plant personnel, including an hourly, unionized workforce consisting of (6) DTE Operating Engineers, (5) Stellantis Wastewater Operators and (6) Stellantis Skilled Tradespersons
  • Understand and adhere to all commercial and contractual obligations
  • Act as the onsite liaison between the Company and the Customer
  • Ensure that all financial goals are met
  • Develop and manage the annual O&M budget and cost-savings measures
  • Manage site purchasing and inventory control processes
  • Manage employee time entry and work schedules
  • Develop and lead continuous improvement activities
  • Prepare and issue weekly and monthly reports in a timely, consistent manner
  • Support the development and implementation of all Onsite Energy Business Unit initiatives and best practices
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with key customer personnel
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
