About The Position

Under general supervision of the Precinct Foreman, is responsible for assisting the Precinct Foreman in the administration of the maintenance & improvement operations of a county-wide road and drainage infrastructure system. Performs other related duties as required .

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate and at least two (2) years progressively responsible experience in road maintenance and construction including two (2) year lead or supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver's License Class C.
  • Physical requirements include frequent carrying/lifting 10 - 25 lbs. and 50 - 100 lbs. occasional visual acuity, speech and hearing, subject to stooping, crawling, kneeling, handling, twisting, reaching, pushing, and balancing to perform the essential functions.
  • Knowledge of road repairs and maintenance, knowledge of all road construction tools and equipment, good knowledge of safety standard and practices.
  • Skill in the operation of all related tools and equipment; skill in mathematical and general engineering functions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of road repair and maintenance functions, including operation of heavy road construction equipment and machinery, ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co­workers, department heads, County employees, outside agencies/vendors and the general public.

Nice To Haves

  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A or B) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in supervising and coordinating daily operations of road crews in the completion of county-wide paving and drainage improvement projects.
  • Assist in planning and organizing the daily work activities for the crews.
  • Calculates estimates for materials quantities and costs
  • Operates light to heavy road construction equipment as necessary to complete road and drainage maintenance or improvement projects.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and machinery in safe operating condition
  • Required to be on call and/or on-duty to assist the community in preparing, responding and recovering from severe weather events.
  • Assists in monitoring and assessing effective/efficient utilization of equipment and materials.
  • Performs related duties as required.
