About The Position

To provide support and assistance to the Principal in the development and implementation of procedures that will result in the maximum utilization of staff, materials, and facilities as they relate to students in Grades K-5, and the achievement of the objectives of the District. To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily under the supervision of, and in partnership with, the building principal: Ensure the implementation of an educational environment that meets the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of all primary and intermediate students in partnership with the building principal; Assist planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of instructional programs and activities; interpret and implement the district approved curriculum program in consideration of building plans; Take an active leadership while partnering with the building principal in school improvement planning and implementation, including gathering, analyzing, and using student data with building teams to monitor program and delivery effectiveness; Supports and implements established building policies, procedures, and regulations. Actively participate in the screening, selecting, assigning, supervising, and evaluating certified and educational support staff (ie: paraprofessionals, maintenance, contracted personnel, and substitute teachers); Contribute to the professional learning and training of all staff according to established improvement plans, and District policies and procedures Provide effective leadership for efficient facilitation of special education and student support services in the building in conjunction with Principal and District leaders; Plan, schedule and supervise student activities; Assist in the budget planning process at the building level; Supervise the organization and proper management of instructional materials, student records, and financial obligations of the building (ie: budgets, accounts, and fee management) Supervise and address procedures for student and building safety and security, including establishing drills, handling disturbances and investigations, and leading crisis emergency management; Collaborate with the Principal and building leadership team to ensure a positive, service-oriented atmosphere in the school Coordinate transportation needs of the school in cooperation with the Principal and District leaders; Facilitate special education meetings and serve as the local Education Agency Lea representative as needed; Coordinate the assignment orientation and supervision of student teachers and interns and cooperation with the building principal Relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out and modeling a developmentally appropriate behavior plan and policy Assist with planning and execution of a student activities calendar, including special events that inform families, build school climate enhance and highlight student learning, and communicate events with the District and stakeholders; Supervise and manage building operations to ensure safety and efficiency Monitor teaching and learning as directed by the principal including observing classroom instruction and analyzing student learning data Coordinate, schedule, and supervise building operations as assigned by the principal including cleaning, maintenance, lunchroom, playground, duty/coverage, arrival/dismissal procedures, food service, and building usage. Assist with state and federal reporting requirements as directed Serve as the building principal in the absence of the principal Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s) Organize and supervise all aspects of the co-curricular program, including sponsored before and after school programs and clubs and activities; Vision and lead efforts to build and maintain family-school partnerships and engagement with community groups, promoting a positive image of the school within the community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, from an accredited college or university, with training in administration, supervision, and/or curriculum and instruction
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate administrative endorsement (ie: Principal, Superintendent, etc.)
  • Valid, Appropriate Illinois credentials to evaluate certified staff
  • Four years of successful teaching or related service experience is required, preferably at the elementary level
  • Evidence of instructional leadership with a strong commitment to academic excellence with high expectations of students and staff.
  • Strong background in core content with experience with multi-tiered systems of support and data Analysis.
  • An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a student-focused continuous improvement model
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction at the elementary level
  • Ability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated excellence as an educational leader with strong organizational, problem solving and human relations skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with a record of building relationships that foster collegial trust, promote teacher efficacy, family engagement, and motivate others to aspire to high expectations and accountability with a common instructional focus

  • Knowledge of District policies, Local policies, State, and Federal laws relating to students
  • Understanding of the range of services and requirements to meet the needs of a diverse student population, including special education, enrichment, and multilingual services, and demonstrated use of strategies for ensuring practice of the same
  • The vision, compassion, and enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards and continuous improvement
  • Ability to regularly communicate verbally and hear
  • Ability to use close and distant vision and adjust focus/
  • Ability to push, pull, ambulate, perform tasks from a standing or seated position, and use fine motor manipulation during the normal performance of tasks and responsibilities
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift or move up to 30-50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel from building to building and within the local community as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of successful administrative or supervisory experience at the elementary level is preferred
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Spanish is strongly preferred
