About The Position

The Assistant Principal is a key member of the school leadership team, responsible for driving strong academic outcomes and a positive student culture. This leader supports and develops teachers through coaching, supervision, and professional learning, while also leading critical student culture initiatives and supporting schoolwide priorities. Through this work, the Assistant Principal helps create a joyful, academically rigorous school environment that prepares students with the skills, confidence, and character to succeed in college, career, and beyond. The Assistant Principal of Cedar Rapids Prep will lead alongside the Principal at one of the two Cedar Rapids Prep campuses that will be functioning by Fall 2026.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of teaching experience in a K-12 environment with a record of achieving strong academic outcomes
  • 3+ years of school leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success in using data to drive student achievement and improve instructional practices
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional development for educators
  • Deep knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Experience implementing and managing an RTI framework
  • Deep belief in all students’ potential and a commitment to holding high academic and behavioral expectations
  • A growth mindset, constantly seeking to refine and improve support skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Adaptability and excitement about being part of a founding team at a new school
  • Readiness to go above and beyond, including putting in extra time in and outside of your role, to build Cedar Rapid’s premier college prep school

Responsibilities

  • School Operations & Systems Support daily school operations and help ensure a safe, orderly learning environment
  • Assist with scheduling, supervision duties, and coverage plans
  • Respond to urgent issues and problem-solve in real time during the school day
  • Support compliance with district, state, and school policies
  • Support the development and implementation of a positive school culture
  • Manage student behavior systems, including restorative practices and disciplinary processes
  • Partner with teachers to promote strong classroom management and student engagement
  • Support attendance, behavior, and intervention plans for students
  • Build strong relationships with students and families
  • Serve as a member of the school leadership team and contribute to strategic planning
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and support staff to align on student supports
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of staff
  • Foster a collaborative, high-expectations professional culture
  • Willing to offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues in order to create a professional working atmosphere that is conducive to change and improvement
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including pre-service training over the summer and weekly during the academic year
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding academics, behavior, and school initiatives
  • Participate in family meetings, IEP/504 meetings, and school events
  • Serve as a school representative to community partners as needed
