About the Role Academies of Math and Science is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Assistant Principal for Elementary Grades (K–4) to join the leadership team at our new AMS Power Campus in Mesa. This leader will work closely with the Campus Principal and network leadership to help build and sustain a high-performing school culture from the ground up. The Assistant Principal will support instructional excellence, school operations, student culture, and teacher development while ensuring a safe, structured, and academically rigorous learning environment. The ideal candidate is a strong instructional leader who is passionate about developing teachers, improving student outcomes, and serving diverse student communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 3 years of successful K–8 classroom teaching experience with evidence of strong student outcomes
  • Prior leadership or teacher leadership experience such as: Grade-level lead Mentor teacher Instructional coach Dean of students Assistant principal internship
  • Strong ability to coach adults, improve instructional practices, and support classroom management systems
  • Experience analyzing academic data to drive instructional decisions and student support
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse and underserved student communities

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership
  • Arizona Administrator or Principal certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
  • Experience working in a Title I school or charter school environment

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership Conduct classroom walkthroughs and formal evaluations using AMS instructional frameworks.
  • Provide targeted coaching and actionable feedback to teachers to strengthen instructional practices and student engagement.
  • Support professional development, PLCs, and instructional planning aligned with AMS curriculum and Arizona state standards.
  • Analyze student achievement data to monitor scholar progress and support academic interventions and growth strategies.
  • Collaborate with the principal and instructional leadership team to ensure strong curriculum implementation across grade levels.
  • School Culture & Operations Help establish and maintain strong school-wide systems, routines, and expectations.
  • Support student discipline systems aligned with AMS culture and restorative practices.
  • Build positive and productive relationships with students, families, and staff.
  • Assist with campus operations including supervision, scheduling, safety drills, and school events.
  • Support the creation of a safe, welcoming, and structured learning environment.
  • Talent & Team Support Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and development of instructional staff.
  • Mentor teachers and support new staff members in implementing AMS instructional practices.
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and a student-first mindset.
  • Collaborate with campus and network leaders to strengthen teacher retention and staff development.
