Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an approved program which qualifies for principal certification with the state of South Dakota.
  • Minimum of four years’ teaching experience at the middle level, preferred.
  • This position requires constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent walking, talking, writing.
  • Frequent keyboarding and repetitive motions with wrists, fingers, and hands are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer for word processing, spreadsheets and data entry.
  • Knowledge of the best educational practices at the middle school level and current research on secondary education.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of four years’ teaching experience at the middle level, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing the school District’s goals, mission and implementing District programs.
  • Assists with student discipline, attendance and activities.
  • Assists with site-based management council, parent advisory groups or parent teacher board.
  • Conducts faculty meetings within the building.
  • Accounts for all monies handled in the school program and requisitions needed supplies and materials in compliance with state requirements and with policies and regulations of the school board.
  • Assists the building principal in planning the educational program in the building.
  • Works cooperatively with IPC administrators and building staff in continuous curriculum evaluation, implementation and development.
  • Identifies opportunities for professional growth of staff with respect to clinics, workshops, conferences, conventions, professional organizations and appropriate inservice education program.
  • Reviews materials relating to students’ eligibility for special education services.
  • Assumes responsibility for the security, safety of students and general appearance of the building in cooperation with the building principal and the Director of Operational Services.
  • Assists in the dissemination of information to the public regarding building activities.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining good relations with civic, professional, service, parent organizations and the community in general.
  • Chairs special education IEP or evaluation team meetings at the request of the principal.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
