About The Position

The Department of Medicine of McGill University invites applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor based at the Jewish General Hospital-CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine is a leader in academic medicine; our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Jewish General Hospital is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The McGill Division of Nephrology is highly committed to the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, research and medical education. Its mission includes as a priority the strategic recruitment of outstanding individuals committed to academic medicine. The JGH Division of Nephrology is composed of a dynamic group of experts supporting the JGH’s mandate to provide high-quality patient-centered care. We manage a busy in-patient consultation service providing nephrological expertise and care throughout the hospital including a strong presence in the ER, ICU, medical, surgical, obstetrical, and cardiac wards. Our out-patient practice includes general nephrology clinics where we provide consultations and/or longitudinal care to patients with all manner of nephrological issues as well as specialty clinics such as pre-dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and pre-renal transplant evaluation clinics. Our dedicated team of experts are committed to providing excellent care to over 280 hemodialysis patients and over 50 peritoneal dialysis patients. In addition, our division has active programs in both clinical and basic science research. All members of the division participate in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of McGill medical students, residents, and fellows.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD degree and must have completed specialty training in Nephrology
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Nephrology
  • Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec
  • Have at least one additional year of clinical and /or research training in in a core aspect of academic nephrology such as chronic kidney disease, dialysis modalities, glomerulonephritis, metabolic bone disease, or other areas of interest within the scope of Nephrology

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical responsibilities will include a commitment to medical inpatient and consultation services (in-patient and emergency departments), as well as to outpatient ambulatory Nephrology clinics including general nephrology, pre-dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and pre-transplant evaluation.
  • The successful candidate is also expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., teaching and supervision of clinical trainees, graduate students and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
  • All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
