About The Position

The McGill University Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute are currently inviting applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical). This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Douglas Mental Health University Institute is part of the Montréal West Island Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre, whose mission is to offer cutting-edge care and advance and share knowledge in mental health. The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute—a major teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

Requirements

  • Hold an MD, and hold or be eligible for, licensure as a psychiatrist in the province of Quebec
  • Have completed advanced Psychiatry training (i.e., fellowship/graduate studies)
  • Possess advanced capacity to engage in all aspects of a university-affiliated psychiatry department (i.e., clinical, education and/or research)
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinician-scientists with MD/PhD (or equivalent research-intensive training) are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Interest and relevant experience in administration and medical leadership will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out clinical activities at the Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic where evaluations and follow-ups of elderly patients are carried out.
  • Contribute to clinical activity in a variety of settings within the Geriatric Psychiatry service.
  • Actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
  • Contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.
