About The Position

The University of Louisville Archives and Special Collections (ASC) library invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to serve as Archivist for Student Success and Strategic Engagement. This individual will be responsible for leading ASC’s instruction program and developing engaged learning opportunities for students. They will lead ASC’s student success initiatives, particularly in the areas of student employment and collaborative programming with campus organizations. They will also play a role in promoting student success and faculty scholarship through the ThinkIR, the University of Louisville’s institutional repository.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science, History, English, or a related field, from an accredited program.
  • Strong interest in teaching with primary sources.
  • Experience working in special collections, archives, museums, or cultural heritage settings.
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, work on several projects simultaneously, work independently, and collaborate with library colleagues.
  • Potential for meeting the University Libraries faculty promotion and tenure requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years' experience teaching with primary sources.
  • Familiarity with developing and maintaining content for research guides & tutorials and other educational resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional assessment practices and/or Guidelines for Primary Source Literacy.
  • Experience supervising student workers or volunteers.
  • Knowledge of Louisville-area history.
  • Familiarity with Louisville-area historical/cultural organizations.

Responsibilities

  • As ASC’s instruction lead, heads ASC’s work to provide UL students with the opportunity to hone their critical thinking skills by working with primary sources in active learning sessions, enhancing their capacity for lifelong learning. Responsible for the program’s development, implementation, and assessment, and outreach to faculty.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees ASC’s internship and student employee programs, offering students transferrable workplace and life skills through hands-on, engaged experiences in ASC.
  • Coordinates ASC’s student-engaged collaborations with community and student organizations, involving students in developing programming highlighting ASC’s collections.
  • Continues ASC’s work to enhance the University’s research profile by promoting faculty and student scholarship in the ThinkIR, the University’s institutional repository.
  • Strengthens partnerships between ASC and other campus units through participation in student success related activities.
  • Provides reference services for collections in all Archives and Special Collections units.
  • Engages in research, scholarly activity, and service to the university, community, and profession.
