Assistant Stagehand - Electrics
About The Position
The Assistant Stagehand - Electrics (ASH-E) is a short-term, one-production position that is an integral part of our staff, and will work alongside the I.A.T.S.E. stagehands from load-in to strike on our production of Footloose. The ASH-E will have hands on learning in the hang and focus of lighting instruments (conventional and automated), wiring of practicals, and participate in the running of the production as the spotlight operator. Additional opportunities in video as well as hands on experience in other technical areas are available as the schedule allows and employee requests.
Requirements
- Experience interpreting lighting plots and working with a variety of lighting instruments.
- Comfortable working in catwalks and on personnel lifts.
- A basic understanding of general and theatrical electricity.
- Some experience working in a professional technical theater environment and a desire to build a foundation for a career in the industry.
- A desire to learn, the ability to self-start, multitask, troubleshoot, and adapt quickly are most important.
- Communicate well with a diverse group of colleagues.
- Demonstrate an aptitude and eagerness to learn new skills and processes when necessary.
- Solve problems and engage in creative thinking about challenges individually and in a group environment.
- Are able to accept and incorporate feedback.
- Have excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and diplomacy skills and ability to be self-directed and take initiative.
- Demonstrate a commitment to our mission, and core values both in the workplace and in our community.
- Able to walk and stand for 2-4 hours at a time.
- Must be able to maneuver bulky and heavy materials, sometimes lifting up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
Responsibilities
- Work with I.A.T.S.E stagehands to load-in, tech, run, and strike Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s production of Footloose.
- Run spotlight for Footloose.
- Assist resident crew with creating and maintaining a safe stage and work area.
