About The Position

The Assistant Summer Camp Coordinator, under the supervision of the Director of School Age Programs with the Summer Camp Coordinator supports the daily operations of YMCA Summer Day Camp programs held within local schools. This seasonal position assists in ensuring high-quality program delivery, positive staff leadership, and strong camper and family engagement. The Assistant Coordinator helps maintain a safe, organized, and mission-driven camp environment and assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Coordinator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for education.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in formal child care curriculum and programming, school age experience.
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required
  • Must complete successful criminal background check and drug screen

Nice To Haves

  • Child Care certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, organization, and implementation of daily camp activities that promote healthy lifestyles, skill development, and character growth.
  • Assist in supervising camp staff, providing guidance, modeling positive behavior, and reinforcing YMCA policies and safety standards.
  • Help maintain staff-to-camper ratios and ensure proper attendance tracking and daily sign-in/out procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for parents and families, addressing questions and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Step into a leadership role and oversee site operations when the Coordinator is absent.
  • Assist with payroll preparation, supply inventory, and adherence to budget guidelines.
  • Support enrollment, retention, and overall camper experience initiatives.
  • Ensure risk management and child safety standards are consistently followed, including incident and accident reporting and child protection protocols.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all campers and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, special events, and fundraising activities as required.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to operate a 14-passenger vehicle when necessary.
  • All other duties assigned by Management.
