About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent to work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in maintaining the golf course and associated grounds. This leadership role supports daily operations, oversees agronomic and cultural programs, and ensures team members are properly trained in safety, equipment usage, and maintenance procedures. The Assistant Superintendent may act on behalf of the Golf Course Superintendent during absences and serves as a key leader within the maintenance team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; degree in turf management or related field strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of golf course maintenance management experience
  • Prior supervisory experience with a proven ability to train, coach, and motivate teams
  • Pesticide applicator certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • Strong working knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and maintenance equipment
  • Understanding of planting, pruning, fertilization, pest control, drainage, and soil conditioning practices
  • Basic computer skills and strong organizational abilities
  • High attention to detail, commitment to excellence, and a positive, hands-on leadership style
  • Ability to perform physical job duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead daily golf course maintenance operations, including supervising and directing staff
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent
  • Assist with recruiting, scheduling, training, and performance management of the maintenance team
  • Assign daily tasks in alignment with agronomic and turf management plans
  • Oversee proper application and calibration of fertilizers and pesticides
  • Train team members on equipment operation, safety procedures, and maintenance techniques
  • Manage irrigation systems and monitor course conditions to maintain optimal turf health
  • Assist with operating budget preparation and cost control initiatives
  • Maintain tees, fairways, greens, and landscaped areas using best practices in turf management
  • Schedule and supervise work efficiently to maximize labor and equipment utilization
  • Address member concerns professionally and escalate issues when appropriate
  • Maintain positive employee and public relations
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities, including seminars, workshops, and industry events
  • Support and enforce safety programs for employees, members, and guests
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
