About The Position

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. Successful faculty in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities will be dynamic and innovative scholars with a record of research and teaching excellence. Strong candidates for this position will have the expertise, knowledge, and skills to build their research, pedagogy, and curriculum in ways that reflect and enhance this commitment. The Department of History in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University seek to fill a non-tenure-track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor in the area of Modern Europe. This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year. This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. The position will be on Northeastern’s Boston campus.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in European History or a related field in hand by the employment start date is required.
  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.
  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Full Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Full Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.
  • Applicants should submit a cover letter that addresses their interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, and names and contact information for at least three professional references from whom letters of reference can be solicited as needed.
  • The teaching statement should summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, and what you would like to teach at Northeastern.
  • Please highlight any pedagogical innovations, experiential learning activities, or strategies for teaching a global student population.

Responsibilities

  • Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses in each semester), including Modern Europe, History of the Soviet Union, History of Espionage, and courses in their specialty.
