About The Position

The St. Paul Academy and Summit School Associate Athletics Director for the lower and middle school is responsible for implementing, coordinating, and maintaining the athletic program at the lower levels of SPA athletics. This administrative Leader will help shape the future of the athletics program and collaborate with the Athletics Director, other athletics administrators, coaches, and student athletes in implementing an Athletics Strategic Plan and Vision. The Associate Athletics Director must reflect and promote the institutional mission, serving both the minds and the hearts of our student-athletes who will one day change the world. In addition, the successful candidate will serve as the athletics communications officer and the senior women’s athletics administrator.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in physical education, fitness, sports management, or a related field; preferably a Master’s degree.
  • Experience in athletics administration - scheduling, promoting, managing, staffing, and funding in an educational-based school athletics program is desired.
  • A strong and nuanced understanding of the social and emotional development of Lower and Middle School students.
  • A proven record of coaching in a variety of sports (including at the lower/middle school level)
  • A strong record of administrative success, including mentoring and supervising coaches in a number of sports.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Able to operate effectively in diverse environments and interact successfully with people from widely varying backgrounds in a friendly and professional manner.
  • A strong understanding of gender equity within all levels of athletics
  • Be highly organized and work effectively with a broad range of constituencies, including coaches, parents, faculty/staff, and students.
  • Ability to successfully encourage community participation in athletics and athletic events.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and experience in Developmental Designs for Lower and Middle School is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, and assess all Lower School (LS) and Middle School (MS) athletic programs, ensuring alignment with the school’s academic mission, values, and goals. Cultivate an athletic culture of excellence and strong character.
  • Collaborate within the athletics department and with the Athletics Director on hiring, training, evaluating, mentoring, and retaining coaching staff. Provide specific support as the Senior Women's Athletics Administrator for female coaches and athletes.
  • Oversee the scheduling, planning, transportation, and facility use for all MS/LS athletic events. Manage equipment procurement and ensure adherence to all governing body rules and school policies.
  • Assist in the development and oversight of the departmental budget. Manage student-athlete eligibility and address parent/student concerns.
  • Serve as the athletics communications officer, managing web and social media presence. Coordinate the Junior Spartan and Youth Spartan programs.
  • Serve on the athletics leadership and Middle School administrative teams. Act as the Athletics Title IX Representative and the summer camp and clinic coordinator. Represent the school in external athletic organizations and provide strategic guidance on future programming needs.
