About the Team Are you passionate about building data products that solve problems across an entire company? We are a cross‑functional team of Data Analysts who partner with product, sales, operations, and business leaders to design and deliver data products that drive better decisions at scale. As a Sr. Associate Data Analyst, you will work across domains and functions to understand business needs, shape data product requirements, and turn complex data into reliable, intuitive solutions and insights for stakeholders. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues who deeply understand Workday’s data, systems, and business processes, giving you opportunities to develop strong foundations in analytics, data modeling, and product thinking. This role is a great fit if you enjoy learning new domains, working with diverse partners, and seeing your work embedded in reusable data products that power decisions across the company. About the Role Workday is looking for a Associate Data Analyst with a passion for cross‑functional collaboration and building scalable data products. In this role, you will use your analytical thinking, business analysis skills, and technical toolkit (including SQL and modern analytics tools) to analyze complex business problems using data from internal and external sources, and to translate those needs into well‑designed, reusable data assets. You’ll partner with stakeholders across multiple organizations to: Understand their objectives and pain points, Define shared metrics and data requirements, Co‑design data products (datasets, models, reports, and dashboards) that can be used broadly rather than as one‑off solutions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of professional experience in a data‑focused role (e.g., Data Analyst, Product Analyst, Business Analyst, Reporting Analyst) working closely with stakeholders to solve business problems using data.
  • Hands‑on experience writing and using SQL to query and manipulate data from relational databases or structured datasets.
  • Experience with at least one data visualization / BI tool (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar) to build reports or dashboards that are used by multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in Finances is a must.
  • Solid understanding of relational data concepts and basic data modeling, including relationships, joins, aggregations, and how to structure data for analytics and reporting.
  • Strong Analytical Thinking and Problem Analysis skills, with the ability to decompose complex, cross‑functional questions into smaller, answerable components and choose appropriate analytical approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience in Business Analysis: capturing requirements, mapping business processes to data, and converting stakeholder needs into clear data or reporting specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain data concepts, trade‑offs, and findings in a way that resonates with different audiences, from technical partners to business leaders.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of data integrity and confidentiality, and to support Data Governance practices in your day‑to‑day work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Python or R for data analysis, automation, or experimentation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Workday data, Salesforce.com, reporting, analytics, or similar enterprise application data domains is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and levels, build trust, and influence through data and clear reasoning.
  • Comfortable working in an iterative or agile environment, incorporating feedback, and adjusting as priorities and learnings evolve.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders (e.g., product, sales, finance, HR, operations) to identify, define, and clarify business problems and opportunities, and translate these into clear data product requirements.
  • Analyze datasets from Workday and other systems to identify trends, patterns, and drivers that inform the design of scalable data products and shared metrics.
  • Design and iterate on reusable data assets (e.g., curated datasets, semantic layers, standardized dashboards) that can support multiple teams and use cases, rather than one‑off analyses.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, join, and validate data from relational sources, ensuring performance, reliability, and alignment with our data models.
  • Use data analysis tools and visualization platforms to build intuitive, self‑service reporting and analytics experiences that empower stakeholders to answer their own questions where appropriate.
  • Apply strong Analytical Thinking and Problem Analysis to break down complex, ambiguous questions into structured problems with clear hypotheses, methods, and success criteria.
  • Demonstrate Business Acumen by understanding how different functions operate, how their metrics relate, and how shared data products can create leverage across organizations.
  • Contribute to Data Governance by helping define and document metrics, data definitions, and usage guidelines for data products, and by raising and tracking data quality issues with appropriate owners.
  • Collaborate with analytics engineers, data engineers, and other analysts to align on data models, pipelines, and technical standards that support reliable data products.
  • Participate in and sometimes facilitate cross‑functional design reviews, stakeholder workshops, and feedback sessions to refine data products and ensure they meet real user needs.
  • Support testing and validation of new or updated data products, including sanity checks, reconciliation with source systems, and tracking issues through to resolution.
  • Contribute to documentation, playbooks, and knowledge‑sharing so that data products are well understood and easy to adopt across teams.
  • Over time, you will deepen both your product and analytics capabilities, taking on more complex cross‑functional initiatives.
