About The Position

The Associate Data Engineer supports the development and maintenance of data systems, infrastructure, and pipelines that collect, process, and prepare data for use across the LA Galaxy and AEG Sports. This role assists senior team members in ingesting new data sources, preparing datasets for analytics and visualization, and monitoring data quality across environments. The Associate Data Engineer will collaborate with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, well-documented, and high-quality data flows that meet organizational needs.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree (4-year): Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical area
  • 1-2 years
  • Related technical experience
  • Experience of working with Big Data Technologies such as Hadoop, Spark or Databricks
  • Experience of Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory and other Azure services, including NoSQL technologies.
  • Experience of creating and managing database objects (tables, views, indices, stored procedures, UDFs, triggers, etc.)
  • Foundational understanding of ETL concepts, Big Data technologies, and programming languages such as Python, PySpark, or Scala
  • Knowledge of SQL Server components
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and support diverse stakeholder needs
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with all levels of employees; must be able to communicate technical aspects to non-technical team members
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in sports (specifically Soccer) and/or the live entertainment industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist members of the Data Team and Business Ops & Strategy Team with data-related requests across the LA Galaxy, AEG Sports, and other supported environments.
  • Support the engineering, execution, and monitoring of ETL and data pipeline tasks using available tools to help integrate new data sources.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of data models, including basic performance improvements under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Participate in monitoring and troubleshooting data issues, including helping produce data quality reports and assisting in identifying new validation methods.
  • Maintain documentation of data flows, data environments, and source control processes, including assisting with ERD creation.
  • Build positive working relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors to support data availability and business requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day support to data analysts and ML specialists regarding data environments, including preparing documentation for pipelines and dashboards.
  • Follow data protection, security, and governance policies, particularly those related to PII and sensitive data.
