About The Position

The Associate Director of Development is responsible for advancing philanthropic engagement in support of Torrance Memorial Medical Center. This position manages a portfolio of donors and prospects, develops strategic fundraising initiatives, and leads annual giving and volunteer programs. Working both independently and collaboratively, the Associate Director builds meaningful relationships with grateful patients, community members, physicians, volunteers, and hospital leadership to increase charitable support aligned with the Medical Center’s priorities. This role combines frontline fundraising, volunteer leadership, event oversight, donor communications, and program coordination to strengthen the Foundation’s culture of philanthropy and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, identifying new opportunities through community outreach, grateful patient engagement, and professional networks.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors at all levels, with an emphasis on growing major gift support.
  • Present the Medical Center’s strategic priorities and master plan in a compelling manner that inspires philanthropic investment.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful stewardship that reinforces long-term donor relationships.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for annual giving support groups, including the Young Physicians and Professionals Alliance (YPPA) and Employee Ambassadors.
  • Drive membership growth, fundraising participation, and volunteer engagement.
  • Recruit, educate, and motivate committee members to serve as ambassadors and active fundraisers.
  • Oversee planning and execution of meetings, initiatives, and related fundraising activities.
  • Support volunteer leadership, align activities with Foundation priorities, and ensure recognition and stewardship of volunteer contributions.
  • Engages local schools and performing arts groups to showcase student and community talent during Holiday Festival public hours.
  • Plan and implement fundraising and stewardship events that align with institutional objectives and financial goals.
  • Monitor event budgets to ensure fiscal responsibility and measurable return on investment.
  • Represent the Foundation at hospital and community events to deepen donor relationships.
  • Oversee donor communications to ensure messaging is strategic, consistent, and mission centered.
  • Send acknowledgment letter for donations within 48 hours when possible.
  • Develop written materials including appeals, impact updates, event invitations, stewardship reports, and newsletters.
