About The Position

The Office for Faculty Affairs (OFA) seeks an Associate Director for Faculty Initiatives. Reporting to the Director for Faculty Initiatives, and working with the OFA team, the Associate Director for Faculty Initiatives is responsible for improving policies and procedures for how the institution engages and employs professional track (PTK) faculty; managing awards for PTK faculty; overseeing the implementation of the institutional policy regarding the appointment, evaluation, and promotion of PTK faculty, including managing the process for promotions that come to the Provost's office for review; working with OFA on initiatives designed to provide professional development opportunities for PTK faculty; and other matters related to PTK faculty. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in higher education or professional development.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.
  • Knowledge of University of Maryland, College Park policies and procedures related to Professional Track Faculty (PTK), including applicable USM and UMD requirements.
  • Skill in oral and written communication with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Skill in presenting information to committees, administrators, and faculty audiences on Professional Track Faculty matters.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
  • Skill in data analysis.
  • Skill in continuously seeking to improve the quality of services and operational processes.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Ability to solve problems and make sound judgments.
  • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and resourcefulness in prioritizing multiple and long-term projects.
  • Ability to distinguish between advocacy and the responsibility to uphold relevant institutional policies and procedures related to Professional Track Faculty.
  • Ability to work collegially and effectively within a team structure.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Three (3) years or more as a University of Maryland College Park PTK Faculty member in the highest rank.
  • Experience with designing, managing, and facilitating workshops and events is preferred.
  • Experience with the University of Maryland College Park University Senate (e.g., Senator, Committee Member) is preferred.
  • Experience with Title IX or other misconduct proceedings or appeals.
  • Experience with the PTK faculty promotion process.
  • Open minded.
  • Fair and ethical.
  • Understands the significance, necessity, and requirements of confidentiality and processes stipulated in University/USM policies and procedures.
  • Understands that OFA works on behalf of and for the Senior Vice President and Provost.
