This Position reports to: Sales Support Manager Your role and responsibilities In this role, you will operate as the support to the Field Application Engineer (FAE) for the Electrification business of ABB within the Dallas trade area. In this role you will learn about consulting engineer, end user, EPC and design build customers, and how FAE’s drive to position ABB products and solutions into a preferred/ acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications. The Associate FAE will be tightly integrated with the local sales team and will learn about applying MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers and arc flash mitigation technologies in various markets such as healthcare, data center, industrial, utility and commercial construction. You will be mainly accountable for: Learn who the key consultants, end user, utility and EPC/DBC engineers are in the territory and their electrical project needs. Work with FAE’s to understand & supply design assistance required, product selection, value engineering, budgeting & required education on ABB solutions to gain acceptance of the same into project specifications. Learn how to review and evaluate project specifications and end-user customer requirements with existing FAE’s on the local team to understand electrical solutions including one-line electrical diagrams, schematic diagrams, lay-out & equipment drawings, equipment specifications and project budget pricing for low and medium voltage applications. Learn the following products and applications: MV/ LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, motor control, power monitoring, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), automatic transfer switches (ATS), paralleling switchgear (PSG), generator circuit breakers and others. Learn short circuit, coordination and arc flash mitigation concepts, and the ability to illustrate their benefit via tools such as SKM or Easy Power. Accountable for creating and or editing presentations for Lunch & Learns to be delivered by FAE’s. Attendance of Trade shows, seminars, conferences as necessary to learn the industry. Establish comfort as a public speaker; comfortable developing and articulating technical concepts to engineers, contractors and users. Support FAE’s with project layouts, drawings and budgets as needed. Prepare data needs for FAE Region leader. Be willing to travel 15-25% of the time but ability to visit customers in local area.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering; preferably electrical with ability to perform the responsibilities of the role through internships, co‑op experience, projects, or relevant work experience.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Able to consider multiple viewpoints and comprehend technical issues.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, PPT, Excel, Visio
  • Enjoy problem solving and new customer development.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively on projects and assignments.
  • Basic knowledge of industry codes and standards; ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Any previous field, plant or design engineering in electrical power systems or industrial facilities a plus.
