About The Position

The IDFPR is seeking a candidate with administrative experience in law. In this position, you will engage in specialized legal work, such as providing legal advice, analysis, and assistance to Department managers, staff, and profession boards relating to the various professional licensing acts, rules, and regulations administered by the Department.

Requirements

  • Requires law degree and possession of a license to practice law in Illinois.
  • Requires three years progressively responsible administrative experience in law.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least eight years of experience as a licensed, practicing attorney.
  • Prefers at least six years of experience in litigation.
  • Prefers at least four years of experience drafting or reviewing legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal counsel/assistance, often of a sensitive and confidential nature, to staff of the Department concerning certain management issues and concerns, including litigation and litigation related matters.
  • Provides legal advice regarding current policies and procedures and proposed new policies.
  • Conducts extensive and complex legal research and/or studies.
  • Interacts with the Rules Coordinator in the revision of rules for the administration of the various professional licensing laws.
  • Identifies rules needing review, clarification or revision, drafts changes, and responds to questions posed by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules.
  • Prepares legal positions relative to certain legislation, both current and proposed, as to the effect on the Director, the Department and/or the licensing process.
  • Provides legal expertise in the drafting of certain legislation and amendments to current laws.
  • Provides counsel to the various licensing examining committees on matters relating to licensure and rule making.
  • As spokesperson for the Department, confers with Legislators, private and staff attorneys, the public, etc., on difficult problems of statutory interpretations and compliance relating to licensure and rule making.
  • Confers with the Illinois Attorney General's Office regarding litigation cases of a sensitive and confidential nature involving the Department.
  • Prepares litigation, complex discovery requests and related materials.
  • Prepares, reviews, and coordinates contracts entered into by the Department.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
