About The Position

The Public Policy Associate supports IBHS public policy initiatives through research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement. This role assists in identifying policy issues, developing policy recommendations, and communicating IBHS perspectives to policymakers and external stakeholders. IBHS public policy work sits at the intersection of science, resilience, housing, and insurance. The Public Policy Associate helps translate technical research and data into policy insights that support IBHS efforts to strengthen resilience for homes, businesses, and communities facing severe weather.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public policy, public administration, political science, law, economics, or a related field.
  • Three to four years of related experience in public policy, government affairs, research, law, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific, technical, policy, and legal materials.
  • Experience conducting research and analyzing policy issues or legislative developments.
  • Ability to prepare written reports, briefing materials, and policy communications.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret quantitative information and policy data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Policy Research & Analysis Research emerging policy issues related to resilience, housing, insurance, and disaster mitigation.
  • Analyze policy proposals, research findings, and data to support IBHS policy initiatives.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to IBHS priorities.
  • Assist in developing policy proposals, briefing materials, presentations, and written communications.
  • Communicate research findings and policy positions to internal and external audiences.
  • Support preparation of policy-related materials for meetings, briefings, and events.
  • Coordinate meetings with policymakers, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, nonprofit organizations, industry partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Support planning and participation in events and meetings that advance IBHS policy priorities.
  • Provide coordination and administrative support related to policy initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
  • Maintain records and materials related to policy activities and projects.
