We are currently looking for a full-time Associate Scientist who characterizes materials used in all aspects of functional packaging. Including chemical, structural and physical strength attributes supporting material research, product development, complaint resolution and production. Assists with the daily operation of instruments to maintain availability, safety and quality standards. The salary range for this position is $66,000 to $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity. This range is provided to ensure clarity and promote equitable access to employment opportunities.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in n Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science required
  • Minimum 1-5 years' industry experience in a technology organization, with a proven record of testing and analyzing data for new product innovations and commercializing formulated products and materials, preferably in coatings, polymers, flexible packaging or related products.
  • Has a working knowledge of lab equipment.
  • A good ability to question data and question unexpected outcomes
  • Possesses personal maturity, business acumen, and critical-thinking skills
  • Interpersonal Savvy
  • Able to travel up to 10%

Responsibilities

  • Independently conducts testing of materials, product structures, finished packages following established procedures and methods.
  • Understands and interprets chemical characterization including molecular spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy, permeation and related testing.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and instrumentation following specific procedures and quality control measures.
  • Communicates with internal and external customers to understand the testing objective and discuss results and develops testing strategy to obtain answers and required information.
  • Develop new methods and technology to characterize packaging structures and materials. Follow advances in chemical and materials sciences to support current and future business needs.
  • Document, interpret, and report conclusions and results with accuracy and ensure that the proper procedures are employed. Have a good ability to question data and unexpected outcomes.
  • Participate in safety programs and conduct all work in a safe manner.
