About The Position

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to product development with a focus on delivering high-quality software solutions driven by DevSecOps principles. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and report directly to the IT Project Management Senior Manager. This team is responsible for managing athenaCoordinator Core, a simplified electronic order transmission service that delivers clean, legible orders to labs, imaging centers, physical therapy groups, and other ancillary service providers. The system provides relevant clinical, billing, and demographic information directly on the order, making the referral process easier and more efficient. By developing and maintaining these essential systems, the team enhances healthcare communication efficiency and supports improved patient care coordination. The role involves working on cutting-edge healthcare technology that directly impacts the quality and timeliness of patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience as a software developer in a product development environment.
  • Strong software engineering skills with a focus on SDLC and DevSecOps-driven delivery.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Perl (preferred), Python, or Java.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git and Bitbucket.
  • Knowledge of AWS cloud services and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HL7 protocols or healthcare integration is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and maintain software components within Athena Coordinator Core to support healthcare data integration and workflow automation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions aligned with business needs and technical standards.
  • Apply software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices to ensure high-quality, secure, and reliable software delivery.
  • Utilize programming languages such as Perl (preferred), Python, or Java for application development and maintenance.
  • Manage and optimize relational databases including PostgreSQL or Oracle to support application performance and data integrity.
  • Employ version control systems like Git and Bitbucket to maintain codebase integrity and support collaborative development.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
  • Explore and apply AI tools and AI-driven development practices to improve software productivity.
  • Gain familiarity with AI-integrated IDEs such as Windsurf, Copilot, or Codex.
  • Support cloud platform operations using AWS services including EC2, S3, and Lambda.
  • Support integration efforts involving healthcare standards, including HL7 protocols, to enhance interoperability.
  • Contribute to documentation of software designs, processes, and user guides to facilitate knowledge sharing.
  • Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure system reliability.
  • Engage in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to healthcare software development.
