About the position

The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Associate Software Engineer. The Associate Software Engineer supports the implementation of UHS applications. Monitors the resolution of maintenance or enhancement issues assigned by the UHS Customer Support Center. Designs and implements new applications or modifications to existing applications that will effectively accomplish desired objectives. Provides technical support to UHS entities as needed. Meets deadlines and ensures continued progress toward assignment completion. Interfaces with the user community regarding application design and support. Provides guidance to less experienced staff. Shares experience and expertise with other members of team.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, codes, tests and documents new applications or enhancements to existing applications.
  • Participates in meetings with users and IS staff to develop or modify application specifications.
  • Supports the implementation of applications.
  • Performs or assists in the performance of unit and system testing.
  • Provides documentation as needed.
  • Adheres to appropriate UHS Project Management standards.
  • Ensures strict adherence to work plans, notifying management of delays or obstacles.
  • Assists senior staff in recommending application solutions to meet business needs.
  • Researches and resolves Customer Support Center Tickets including major application upgrades.
  • Adheres to UHS Service Level and Change Management Policies.
  • Provides on-call support as scheduled.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communications with user community.
  • Maintains Service Excellence principles.
  • Prepares and promptly submits all routine and special reports.
  • Keeps management well informed of activities, needs, problems.
  • Reviews and reports progress on an ongoing basis.
  • Performs other tasks as required by management.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred.
  • Experience and/or technical coursework at the collegiate level in Computer Science or Information Systems relating to relational databases and programming languages, object-oriented development, software development lifecycle, source control principles and project management concepts.
  • SQL server experience with views, tables, and stored procedures.
  • Design, development, analysis, creation, testing and modification of computer programs and database objects.
  • System creation and program level documentation, database design flowcharts, and support documentation experience.
  • Problem solving skills and basic knowledge of business management concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Participation in ongoing training and education.
  • .NET Framework experience preferred.
  • Visual Studio development experience preferred.
