About The Position

The Associate Underwriter training program will begin in late May 2026 and is designed to develop foundational underwriting expertise within our Commercial Lines, Specialty Lines, and Agribusiness divisions. As part of the team supporting SECURA’s continued success, participants will gain exposure to a broad range of commercial insurance coverage including property, auto, workers compensation, and umbrella as well as specialized underwriting disciplines unique to each division, for which each candidate is designated at hire. The program also emphasizes core underwriting principles such as risk evaluation, portfolio management, and sound decision making. Requirements

  • Ability to operate in a Windows-based work environment
  • Great problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and great organization/prioritization skills
  • The ability to excel in a team environment
  • Commitment to continuing insurance education

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (strongly preferred)
  • Prior insurance industry experience
  • Some knowledge of policy language is a plus
  • Completion of basic/fundamental insurance courses
  • Future leadership potential

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete SECURA’s Underwriting Training Program.
  • Team placement and subsequent duties will be based on departmental need.
  • Duties will include: Selecting accounts that are better than average for their class, based on underwriting guidelines.
  • Price accounts to ensure an underwriting profit.
  • Prepare and organize files for issuance and efficiently process agent requests, exceeding departmental service standards.
  • Assist Underwriters and Underwriting Support Specialists in handling new and renewal business and endorsements.
  • Attain growth and profit targets for your team, or your assigned underwriting territory.
  • Develop and maintain a profitable book of business.
  • Develop agency relationships to generate new business and increase renewal retention.
  • Work with Sales Managers to build and manage agency relationships
  • Project work as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
