Associate Underwriter Job Summary: SUI is leading the way in facultative reinsurance, based on robust relationships and strong underwriting results. SUI offers facultative casualty reinsurance for several lines of business, including General Liability, Automobile Liability, Excess/Umbrella Liability and Workers’ Compensation. In June 2024, SUI was acquired by Novacore, the newly formed specialty insurance entity created from the April 2025 sale of NSM Insurance Group’s U.S. commercial division. While we carry forward a 35-year legacy of deep industry expertise, we’re transforming what commercial insurance can be. The Associate Underwriter will support senior underwriters in the evaluation, processing, and underwriting of Facultative reinsurance submissions, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to company guidelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Finance, or a related field, preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Work well in a team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to team goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in insurance, reinsurance, reinsurance brokering, or E&S is preferred.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., ARe, CPCU) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support underwriting activities, through assistance of senior underwriters in the assessment and underwriting of Facultative reinsurance risks by inputting and tracking new and renewal business submissions accurately into internal systems (i.e., contract management system, Excel rating model, and electronic filing system, etc.).
  • Gather and evaluate relevant data and information for the renewal Underwriting process.
  • Review and analyze reinsurance binders, master certificates, endorsements, and policies.
  • Involvement in post bind documentation process; maintaining accurate and organized records of underwriting decisions and transactions, while ensuring compliance with company guidelines, procedures, and post bind processes.
  • Maintain tracking system to ensure proper file maintenance for all business written by the Underwriting Team.
  • Work closely, and trouble shoot, with the Accounting, Claims and Systems departments.
  • Liaise with clients, brokers, broker assistants, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information.
  • Provide support in responding to inquiries and requests for information.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations and reports for risk takers and senior management.
  • Provide general support to the underwriting team.
  • Ensure accuracy in documentation and data analysis, with great attention to detail.
  • Support special projects and initiatives as needed.
