About The Position

Under the administrative direction of the Director of Athletics, the Associate Director of Athletics for Administration serves as a key administrative leader within the Athletics Department and supports the Director of Athletics and executive staff by coordinating and implementing human resources, business operations, sport administration, and performance support functions. The position is accountable for the effective stewardship of people, resources, and programs through the establishment of cohesive, compliant and sustainable business practices aligned with University and CSU policies as well as NCAA regulations. The role partners closely with campus units to integrate Athletics operations within University systems and policies, strengthen internal controls, and promote operational efficiency and transparency. The position plays a critical role in advancing a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement while supporting staff development and ensuring student-athlete health, safety, and competitive success.

Requirements

• EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sports administration, higher education, finance, human resources, or a related field and three (3) years of demonstrated progressive experience within intercollegiate athletics, athletics administration, athletics finance and/or athletics human resources. Experience should include supervision or leadership over professional staff or students.
• LICENSES – Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
• SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA’s) – Regular and reliable attendance is required.
• Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics administration, including human resources practices, financial operations, sport administration, and performance support services.
• Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, university administrative, financial, and personnel policies and the ability to interpret and apply them effectively within a Division I athletics environment.
• Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage departmental budgets, financial reporting, and fiscal controls while ensuring compliance with university and system policies.
• Working knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations as they relate to employment, sport administration, student-athlete welfare, and financial operations.
• Ability to provide effective administrative oversight of Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning, with an emphasis on student-athlete health, safety, and risk management.
• Strong interpersonal, consultative, and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with coaches, staff, campus partners, medical professionals, and senior administrators.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise, direct, coach, train, and evaluate staff, and to hold individuals accountable to established expectations and performance standards.
• Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
• Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.

• May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

Responsibilities

• Athletics Human Resources Administration Serve as the primary athletics liaison to campus Human Resources (People & Culture) and the Office of Faculty Affairs on all personnel-related matters, ensuring timely communication and consistent application of University and CSU policies.
• Under the guidance of campus Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Affairs, assist with coordinating athletics staff recruitments, onboarding, evaluations, corrective actions, and offboarding processes.
• Coordinate and support department-wide staff training initiatives, including compliance training, leadership development, and professional development programming, in collaboration with Athletics leadership.
• Under the guidance of the Office of Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Affairs, support Athletics supervisors with matters related to performance management, employee relations, and best practices for managing teams in a collegiate athletics environment, consistent with HR policies and guidance.
• Support organizational planning, succession planning, and workforce development in collaboration with the Director of Athletics and Executive Staff by gathering information, coordinating discussions, and supporting implementation of approved plans.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing departmental culture aligned with institutional values.
• Athletics Business Operations Oversee and coordinate Athletics business operational processes for all revenue-generating activities, including ticketing operations, game guarantees, NCAA distributions, athletic camps, and special events.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between Athletics and internal campus departments (including Human Resources, Business Services, Facilities, Information Technology Services, University Police Department, Risk Management, and Contracts & Procurement) to ensure business processes are integrated, compliant with CSU and University policies, and operationally efficient.
• Act as Athletics’ liaison to Information Technology Services, ensuring all applicable systems and platforms (including ticketing and payment systems) meet PCI compliance standards and University security requirements.
• Manage game-day business operations, including ticketing office functions, athletic concessions, and hospitality operations, ensuring appropriate controls, staffing coordination, and adherence to University financial and operational policies.
• Work collaboratively with coaches and program leadership to support development and monitoring of team budgets and align fiscal priorities with University guidelines through partnership with the Director of Accounting and AVP/Chief Budget Officer.
• Address budget issues, implement corrective actions, and recommend cost-saving or efficiency-enhancing strategies.
• Support Athletics leadership by identifying operational process gaps, inefficiencies, and compliance risks; recommend and implement solutions that improve transparency, accountability, and cross-departmental collaboration.
• Document existing and newly implemented Athletics business procedures to strengthen internal controls, reduce operational risk, and support consistent compliance with CSU, NCAA, and University requirements.
• Provide operational support and guidance for special events, postseason play, and other non-routine Athletics activities, ensuring advance coordination with campus partners and adherence to applicable policies and procedures.
• Human Performance Oversight Provide administrative oversight of Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning units, in alignment with departmental priorities and established policies.
• Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures that prioritize student-athlete health, safety, and well-being, in coordination with the Director.
• Collaborate with medical professionals, strength staff, and campus partners to ensure appropriate staffing models, coverage plans, and resource allocation.
• Oversee budgets, equipment needs, and operational planning for performance support areas and report budget status to Athletics leadership.
• Facilitate communication and coordination between sports medicine, strength and conditioning, coaching staff, and administration to support competitive readiness and risk management.
• Partner with compliance and campus stakeholders to support adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional health and safety standards.
• Sport/Team Administration Serve as the primary contact for day-to-day sport-specific activities of assigned teams.
• Collaborate with coaches and assist with management of all elements of sport-specific operations to support student athletes, coaches, and staff of assigned teams.
• Foster a culture of excellence and sportsmanship within the athletics programs.
• Work with coaching staff to address and resolve issues related to student-athlete welfare, academic success, and behavior.
• Facilitate regular communication and collaboration among coaching staff, ensuring unified approach to the overall mission and values of the Athletics Department.
