About The Position

Viable is seeking a highly skilled Automation Controls Engineer with hands-on commissioning experience and strong PLC programming capabilities. This role combines automation design, R&D support, onsite commissioning, hardware troubleshooting, and full lifecycle development of automated systems. You will work with actuators, sensors, motors, robots, safety devices, and control hardware to automate complex processes from concept through deployment and later into service and upgrades. This position is ideal for someone who combines strong PLC programming skills with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical components and electrical circuits in automation equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience designing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial automation systems.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred), primarily using ladder logic.
  • Familiarity with industrial hardware: actuators, sensors, servo systems, robotics, and machine safety components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems, read schematics, and perform hands-on repairs.
  • Experience with HMI and SCADA development.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, Modbus, CAN, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy PLC-based control systems using ladder logic as the primary language.
  • Build PLC programs from scratch, including logic for sensors, actuators, motors, robots, motion systems, and safety circuits.
  • Research and support new R&D automation solutions and contribute to prototype development and testing.
  • Integrate hardware such as sensors, actuators, servo systems, robotics, and safety devices using digital, analog, ethernet, and serial communication protocols.
  • Conduct on-site commissioning, validation, and optimization of automated systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, mechanical, and network-related faults.
  • Tune control systems and optimize performance during and after deployment.
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and software teams in the development of mechatronic solutions.
  • Create functional design specifications, wiring diagrams, test procedures, and commissioning reports.
