About The Position

Be the calm in the control room When a production line pauses at 2:17 a.m., you’re the one who keeps a cool head. You diagnose, adjust, and get automation running again. As our Automation Controls Technician on third shift, you’ll keep Motus manufacturing equipment humming by maintaining and optimizing electrical and control systems across the plant. Quick facts Reports to: Maintenance Manager Location: Battle Creek, MI Compensation: Starting at $40/hour, based on experience Schedule: Five-day workweek with opportunities for weekend and off-shift overtime

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s in Electrical Engineering or related training/certifications preferred.
  • 2+ years of practical controls experience with emphasis on Allen‑Bradley platforms.
  • Comfort working with industrial robots and integrating them within automated cells.
  • Fluency in reading electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Analytical troubleshooting mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to excel independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Clear communicator with strong attention to detail.
  • Overtime beyond 40 hours per week is required and is an essential function of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Own the diagnosis and resolution of automation issues across electrical, electronic, and mechanical domains to minimize downtime.
  • Install, wire, configure, and commission control hardware and software for production equipment.
  • Program, calibrate, and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs with a primary focus on Allen‑Bradley; exposure to Siemens is a plus.
  • Verify that all control changes comply with safety policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance; repair failed components quickly and safely.
  • Inspect electrical and control systems regularly to spot issues before they escalate.
  • Partner with Maintenance Technicians and the Controls Engineer to implement upgrades and modifications with seamless integration.
  • Work hands-on with robotics: troubleshoot faults, make minor program tweaks, and complete periodic maintenance.
  • Support basic vision system upkeep and troubleshooting.
  • Document maintenance activities, root causes, repairs, and parts usage with accuracy.
