About The Position

M&M Industries is a U.S.-based manufacturer of plastic pails and packaging solutions. We operate highly automated manufacturing facilities where safety, reliability, and technical excellence are critical to maintaining efficient production operations. The Automation PLC Technician is responsible for designing, repairing, modifying, and troubleshooting electrical components, circuitry, controls, and automated machinery. This role applies electrical and automation principles to build, test, program, and repair production automation equipment while supporting continuous improvement and equipment reliability across the facility.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics
  • Ability to understand and interpret ladder logic
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience utilizing Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLCs, controls, protocols, and platforms
  • Ability to program and debug vision systems (including Keyence and/or Cognex)
  • Ability to set up and modify laser sensors and understand sensor functionality
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to use common hand tools and machining equipment (lathes, end mills, surface grinders)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in PLC, HMI, or robotic programming required
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds independently
  • Ability to lift more than 75 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include hot or cold conditions
  • Ability to wear required PPE at all times (safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.)
  • Ability to work on aerial platforms up to 80 feet (approximately 30 feet on average)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology, completion of an accredited apprenticeship, or equivalent certification preferred
  • Prior experience managing projects and compiling reports preferred
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • Aerial lift certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment
  • Monitor installed equipment to detect hazards, performance issues, and service or repair needs
  • Address and resolve equipment performance issues in collaboration with other technical staff
  • Manage projects related to automation changes and improvements
  • Develop sketches and documentation to clarify design details and functional criteria
  • Apply PLC power management principles to add or remove I/O modules as needed
  • Recommend circuitry or installation specification changes to simplify assembly and maintenance
  • Maintain backup programs for all electrical and automation devices
  • Troubleshoot and program VFDs, servo motor drives, and solid-state temperature controllers
  • Conduct functional and operational testing of prototype and production equipment
  • Analyze data from drives, controllers, scopes, and other diagnostic tools
  • Adjust, calibrate, align, and document circuitry and components and their impact on performance
  • Test newly installed equipment under operating conditions
  • Operate forklifts and aerial lifts as required for job tasks
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with 5S principles
  • Establish ethernet communication protocols including EIP, Profinet, or EtherCAT
  • Support other maintenance and technical staff as needed
