About The Position

The Automation QA Engineer </b>will support the quality assurance needs of Texas Health and Human Services Commission's (HHSC) software development program. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated and manual test scripts across multiple testing phases of the software development lifecycle. The engineer will work within an Agile/Scrum environment, collaborating with development teams and stakeholders to ensure timely, high -quality software releases. The position requires demonstrated expertise in test planning, defect tracking, requirements traceability, and API testing. The selected candidate is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, creativity, and professional judgment in executing complex QA responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 8 years of experience writing and executing test cases and creating test plans.
  • 8 years of knowledge of software usability concepts, requirements traceability, and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • 8 years of experience with the Xray Test Case management tool and Jira project management tool.
  • 8 years of strong SQL query knowledge, including Create, Read, Update, and Delete operations.
  • 8 years of experience writing and executing test automation using UFT (Unified Functional Testing).
  • 8 years of experience conducting API testing and automation using Postman, SOAPUI, JMeter, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within sprint development teams.
  • Ability to organize and communicate complex technical information clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, accurately track time, and estimate work for changes or enhancements.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast -paced delivery environment

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Object -Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts and their application in a QA context.
  • Experience utilizing accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies to verify compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
  • Prior experience working with the State of Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) agency or its systems.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint for project collaboration and documentation management.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automated test scripts and execution plans, including documentation of automated testing processes and coverage strategies.
  • Write, execute, and maintain both manual and automated test cases across unit, integration, regression, smoke, UAT, system, stress, and performance testing types.
  • Prepare UAT test cases aligned with business requirements and conduct walkthroughs with stakeholders to confirm clarity and completeness.
  • Track test case execution results and deliver clear, timely reporting to project stakeholders.
  • Log, categorize, and prioritize defects using Jira, maintaining an organized and accurate record of issues throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain requirements traceability matrices to ensure alignment between business requirements and test coverage.
  • Perform SQL query operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete) to support data validation and testing activities.
  • Conduct API testing using Postman or similar tools to validate authentication processes, user permissions, and role -based access controls.
  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum sprint cycles, supporting development teams in development, test, and UAT environments and troubleshooting defects as required.
  • Utilize accessibility testing tools to ensure software compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, and apply code coverage tools to assess testing thoroughness.
