Automation Systems Group The Automation Systems Group is responsible for the design, construction and support of cutting-edge data center automation and control infrastructure. The department collaborates with Operations, Sales, Engineering, Information Technology and Management to ensure the system continues to fulfill Vantage customer requirements. Automation Systems works closely with partner contractors to come up with the best design and helps manage these partners to success by providing accurate requirements, goals, and timelines. In addition to design and construction, we are also responsible for the technical requirements of the Operations department involving troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing mission critical control systems throughout all Vantage locations. Position Overview Vantage is looking for an ambitious, detail-oriented, hands-on Automation Engineer to support our Automation Services team for all production facilities in North America. The Automation Engineer is responsible for the overall functional health of critical monitoring and control systems. This responsibility includes oversight of facility acceptance testing and Site Operations technical support. Requirements for this position include full familiarity with control systems arrangements and control components for Power and Cooling systems from the field component to the integrated systems level. The Automation Engineer understands the functions of direct control devices and logic controllers as well as the extended effects of failure of those devices in the larger context of systems automation. The Automation Engineer has familiarity with sensors and monitoring devices and the ability to ensure data reliability. The Automation Engineer acts as an advisor to Site Operations and has enough experience to guide technicians through effective troubleshooting. The Automation Engineer regularly interfaces with the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams, Software Development teams and Site Operations teams. You will assist in complete startup, commissioning, and validation procedures on new and existing mission critical data center infrastructure.

Requirements

  • PLC programming experience with Rockwell Automation, Carel and GE systems.
  • 1 – 3 years PLC Experiencing
  • Modbus TCP/IP and RTU, BACNET and Ethernet/IP configuration knowledge.
  • Ability to read and interpret Electrical/Mechanical one-line diagrams.
  • Experience with Ignition HMI software.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of total work time, but may increase if the business requires
  • Ability to travel internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Review new PLC applications for new control system projects and provide feedback to Integrators
  • Complete PLC software application modifications in an online, critical environment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PLC, network, and other critical control system issues during an incident
  • Support data center commissioning activities, including validation of hardware and software systems, alarming, data recovery, and functional logic
  • Work with leading edge automation systems from large scale industrial controls vendors
  • Maintain and deploy updated versions of PLC applications for existing control systems with minimal supervision.
  • Complete PLC software application modifications in an online, critical environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PLC, network, and other critical control system issues during an incident.
  • Support data center commissioning activities, validation of hardware and software systems, alarming, data recovery, and functional logic.
  • Work with leading edge automation systems from large scale industrial controls vendors.
  • Provide full technical and troubleshooting support for Automation technicians teams when responding to control system failures.
  • Provide system reliability feedback to the Automation Engineering team for future design considerations.
